My Porsche Cayenne has about a hundred and ten thousand kilometres, and last week the AC started to blow warm air, with a loud rattling noise from the engine bay whenever I switch it on. I live in Sharjah and work near Industrial Area 3, so the car sits in the sun all day. A garage checked it and said the compressor is finished and needs a full replacement. Then he gave me a price that made me go quiet. My brother says compressors can be repaired or swapped for a good used one at half the cost. A friend says a cheap or used compressor is a gamble, and that if the old one broke apart, the metal bits can ruin the new one unless the whole system is flushed. I looked online for a Premium Porsche AC compressor replacement in Industrial Area 3, but every page said the same thing, so I still do not know what a proper job includes. Does a good shop test the pressure and the clutch before they say the compressor is dead? Should they replace the dryer and flush the pipes at the same time? Is an original part worth the extra money, or is a good aftermarket one fine? Does the job come with a written warranty? How long does it take, and what should it cost on a Porsche? If you replaced an AC compressor, please tell me what the problem was, what you paid, and what you would do differently. Easy answers help me most.
