Job Description
As part of a growing and agile business, our Environmental Planning team is looking for an Associate Technical Director in our Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) team to be involved in some of the UK’s most complex, iconic and challenging projects that are diverse and technically demanding.
The projects we work on include large scale energy and infrastructure projects, large-scale mixed-use development schemes for both private and public clients, public realm, masterplanning and world renowned major transport projects across the rail and highways sector.
On projects you will take technical lead roles. Previous experience in the energy or rail sector would be an advantage.

As part of the role you will coach staff members to perform to reach their full potential and play a key role in the successful delivery of major multidisciplinary development projects.
As Associate Technical Director you will be responsible for the following:
* Project Manager/ Project Director for some of our major EIA projects. This will include delivering a strong EIA leadership role for a wide variety of infrastructure and development projects
* Providing technical direction and oversight on projects within the team including writing,
checking and review of deliverables, with financial/commercial responsibility
* Developing client relationships and new opportunities for EIA work, enhancing our reputation and market position
* Leading bid work including preparing, contributing to and reviewing commercial and technical aspects of bids/tenders
* Influencing key stakeholders in the Arcadis business and externally
* Communicating, liaising and collaborating effectively with clients and colleagues
* Helping grow and develop the wider team through mentoring and line management
* Maintaining and enhance our external reputation by speaking at external events, preparing articles for publication and working with relevant professional bodies
Requirements
* Proven Project Management experience in the field of EIA with detailed knowledge of processes and strategies to support consenting process for major projects
* Solid understanding of UK town planning and consents process preferably to include DCO, TWOA and/or Hybrid Bill experience
* Experience of working with major infrastructure clients in preferably the Rail, Highways and Energy sectors
* Management of multidisciplinary teams – and understanding of how to integrate the work of other disciplines (engineering, environmental, design)
* Experience of preparing client proposals, leading on presentations to prospective clients, bidding/tendering for internal and external opportunities and strong commercial awareness.
* Ability and experience of working with a range of client bodies, including both private sector (promoters of infrastructure, utility companies and developers) and public sector (central and/or local government)
* Commercial expertise, including forecasting, project management and quality assurance
* Relevant degree or equivalent qualification, preferably with chartered status or working towards
* Desired: Knowledge and application experience of sustainability, waste or carbon assessments
* Desired: Experience of Sustainability Appraisal and Strategic Environmental Assessment would be advantageous
* Desired: Full Member of IEMA/IES and CEnv
