An exciting opportunity has arisen at The Huntercombe Hospital Maidenhead to contribute an innovative Occupational Therapy service, working with an inspiring group of young people with varied and complex needs.
What we do
Huntercombe Hospital Maidenhead is the UKs largest specialist Hospital for inpatient CAMHS, serving NHS funded patients, and this position presents an opportunity to work with a leading team in child and adolescent mental health. We support young people who are experiencing significant mental health difficulties requiring inpatient admission. We have a total of 60 beds across four wards: 2 PICU wards (Psychiatric Intensive Care), one GAU (General Adolescent Unit), and one Specialist Eating Disorder Ward. The Hospital is situated within the picturesque Huntercombe Manor site, only 1 mile from junction 7 of the M4, with parking on site.
Opportunities to work with us
We currently have a vacancy for an Occupational Therapist to work primarily across our two PICU wards. As well as your work on these wards you would have the opportunity to develop the OT service with a particular focus on increasing the engagement of young people with activities that enhance their quality of life. In addition, the hospital is currently implementing a PBS (Positive Behaviour Support) framework to guide the care we provide and the post holder would have a key role in the development of this.
Who we are looking for
The hospital is seeking to implement the Positive Behavioural Support (PBS) model. The role of the OT will be integral in this, through contributing to functional assessments, developing PBS plans and supporting and encouraging the young people to achieve their goals and ambitions. The service is particularly interested in developing its sensory assessment and intervention, and exploring how environmental factors influence behaviours of concern.
The successful candidate will work alongside a varied and experienced MDT, including: dietitians, psychologists, art therapy, physiotherapy, family therapists, medical and nursing staff. The role requires close work with the education team, to support normal education development whilst the young people are in our care, and Youth Engagement Practitioners (YEPs) who provide a range of activity based groups throughout the week.
In the role you will work alongside another Occupational Therapist, carrying your own caseload with a level of autonomy to develop your own skills and clinical practice. Further to this, you will have the opportunity to mould the OT service provision across the hospital, with a potential for rotation throughout the different wards in the future. The service is currently following the Model of Human Occupation to support assessment and intervention with young people.
As an Occupational Therapist in this role, you would:
– Be responsible for your own caseload and use of evidence based practice that is outcome focused
– Complete baseline and ongoing assessments
– Contribute to care planning
– Engage in MDT discussion and planning
– Contribute to the CPA process
– Provide 1:1 and group interventions as identified in assessments
– Take an active role in your own personal and professional development and to identify training needs with support of your line manager
– To promote the OT role across the hospital through provision of training and modelling practice
To join The Huntercombe Group as an Occupational Therapist you will:-
– Have a minimum BSc or recognised postgraduate diploma in Occupational Therapy.
– Hold current HCPC registration
– Be able to work autonomously and within a MDT.
– Have a person centred ethos, showing empathy and a desire to make a difference
– Be able to demonstrate initiative and creativity, be flexible and adaptable, well organised and able to manage time and workload effectively in line with the needs of the service
– Have a desire to expand your professional development and support organisational change
– Have a legal right to work in the UK
