Huntercombe Hospital Maidenhead is a Tier 4 Child and Adolescent Mental Health (CAMHS) hospital. The hospital is set in a 13th century manor house with extensive gardens, we look after children and young people aged 12 to 18 years with mental health needs. We are located in Taplow, within 1/2 mile of junction 7 of the M4, two miles from Maidenhead and six miles from Windsor.
We are recruiting a Mental Health Act Administrator to safeguard the organisation and those detained by it under the Mental Health Act through ensuring robust application of the law and associated guidance. You will work closely with Clinicians and the Nursing team to provide a central contact point between the service and the Hospital Managers (MHA Managers), the Tribunal service, legal representatives, social workers and other external agencies as required in the course of the role.
Key Accountabilities:
• Safeguard the organisation and those detained by it under the Mental Health Act through ensuring robust application of the law and associated guidance
• Ensure procedures and practices are in place to ensure that- legal documents are scrutinised; landmark dates are monitored; patients are given their rights; appeals to the Tribunal service and Hospital Managers are coordinated; all other areas of the Act are complied with
• Work closely with the whole staff team, specifically the Responsible Clinician and Ward Manager/Nursing team leader, acting as a point of liaison between the service and the Hospital Managers (MHA Managers), the Tribunal service, legal representatives, social workers and other external agencies as required in the course of the role
• Be accessible to patients and will offer advice/information regarding detention under the Act as is in keeping with the role and their individual rights
• Support the in-house social worker by providing welfare support to service users
• Monitor landmark dates during detention, for example the expiry of sections, consent due dates, referrals to the Tribunal etc. providing timely reminders to the RC and unit staff meeting statutory time frames.
• Arrange for appeals and renewals to be heard by the Hospital Managers- requesting reports, co-ordinating hearings and liaising with all parties to ensure attendance
• Co-ordinate appeals to the Mental Health Tribunal
• Action paperwork for the transfer of patients out of the service
• Act as a point of liaison with external agencies and professionals in line with your responsibilities as MHA Administrator, including the CQC, Tribunal, solicitors, social workers, relatives and advocates etc
To join The Huntercombe Group as a Mental Health Act Administrator you will:-
• Be a good listener with excellent organisational, time management, secretarial, interpersonal and communication skills
• Have current or previous experience of working as a Mental Health Act Administrator
• Have relevant qualification combined with a strong administrative experience
• Have extensive knowledge of the Mental Health act and associated legislation
• Be skilled in managing a complex workload including electronic diary and correspondence management
• Have the ability to understand and use a variety of computer based systems
• Be able to work well independently and also as part of a wider team. This post is of a confidential nature
• Demonstrate a high degree of personal responsibility and initiative in all areas of the role, with a diplomatic and discreet approach
• Maintain confidentiality, privacy and dignity for all patients
• Have an understanding of safeguarding procedures
We require someone on a full time basis to work 37.5 hours per week. The salary ranges from £13.22 to £13.86 per hour.
