The Huntercombe Hospital Maidenhead is part of The Huntercombe Hospitals Group providing renowned inpatient care within a CAMHS service. We require a Social Worker to join our dedicated department and work in partnership with a busy multi- disciplinary team. As part of the social work team we require someone who is able to provide expert communication skills, with the sensitivity and skills to work collaboratively with children and young people. Working and in partnership and liaising with external agencies and families is integral to the role.
The role is varied and is an opportunity to gain additional skills and experience within a CAMHS environment. We are looking for enthusiastic social worker with an interest in working within a CAMHS setting. Applicants are required to have a good understanding and awareness of social work values and theory.
A comprehensive knowledge of the Children’s Act (1989)(2004) and The Working Together to Safeguard Children 2018 are essential. Within this challenging but rewarding environment an awareness of Mental Health Act 1983 and 2007 would also be beneficial together with an understanding of childhood trauma and it’s implications on emotional and mental health.
RESPONSIBILITIES
To be fully involved in the multi-disciplinary team making an essential contribution to develop effective partnerships which are consistently responsive to the needs of the Children and Young People we work with.
The role involves across the hospital as and when required, providing support and advice in respect of the Children Act 1989 and Working Together 2015 in addition to the Mental Health Act 1983/07. With particular emphasis on safeguarding, advocating, discharge planning and other relevant issues. A key role is in maintaining contact between patients and their families, and in liaising with other agencies.
Key Tasks
Pre-Admission
Admission
This role involves discussing new referrals with the Multi-disciplinary Team, reading the information sent and critically analyzing so that you may raise awareness from the social work perspective for potential admissions. Where necessary providing verbal and/or written reports to the Clinical team.
Contact with patient upon admission to advise and reassure them, ensuring that they are aware of their rights to an advocate. To complete the Multi-disciplinary form, establishing any requirements and needs of the young person. A key role is to help the young person through transition and provide support in relation to any related problems.
Establish contact with family, significant others and the relevant statutory agencies. Ensure that any safeguarding concerns are noted and shared with the Unit consultant. Clarify those adults with parental responsibility and compile necessary Care Plans with the young person for their records.
To compile a comprehensive social history, via hospital notes, contact with social services and other agencies, contact with the patient and family.
Admission can be a difficult time for young people and it is important to work with the nursing team so that everyone is aware of any risks or historical events that can impact on the Mental Health of the child. Being able to communicate with young people is essential as are assessment abilities.
Involvement in Care Planning
Attendance and active participation in clinical team meetings, reviews etc. providing advice and social work perspectives.
Regular Contact with patients to establish a supportive working relationship, safeguard and monitor the development of the patient's social relationships and networks. Advocate within the hospital and externally on behalf of the patient enabling their views to be heard. Encourage patient participation in care plans, reviews and other relevant meetings.
Engage and liaise with relatives, family and significant others to support the patient in their recovery and rehabilitation.
Regular assessment of patient's needs and views.
Mental Health Review Tribunals, Manager's Hearings and Child Protection Case Conferences
Preparation of Social Circumstances Reports in liaison with Local Authority Social Services Departments, Community teams and CAMHS.
Preparation for and debriefing of patient and family with respect Mental Health Review Tribunals and Manager's Hearings.
Attendance and participation at Mental Health Review Tribunals and Manager's Hearings, where possible.
Provide written and/or verbal reports to Child Protection Case Conferences and other related Children act proceedings, safeguarding Strategy Meetings as required.
Liaison with outside Agencies
Liaise with and encourage participation by local authority social services, health and other agencies in accordance with Mental Health Act 1983/07, Children Act 1989, Working together 2015 and NHS and Care Act 2014 to secure services in the best interests of the child
Management of Discharge and Transfer
Active involvement in the planning, preparation and co-ordination of discharge to the community involving contact with families, significant others and relevant agencies.
Preparing Patient for discharge/transfer.
Handover of social work responsibility to the relevant agency.
Anti Discriminatory Practice
A commitment to anti oppressive practice is a central element of all social work. It requires individuals to examine and challenge their own beliefs and practices, as well as the institutions impacting upon them and service users. Only through this can progress and change be made and thus this should be the foundation of social work practice at Huntercombe Hospital Maidenhead.
Legislation
* Take a lead role within the Hospital in relation to child protection issues and to ensure all concerns are brought to the awareness of your line manager and clinical Manager. This will involve being available to Hospital staff to discuss child protection issues, advising the Hospital and staff as to child protection procedures, liaising with the relevant child protection agencies and monitoring Hospital practice. This may by necessity include a staff-training element. To ensure that procedures are followed in respect of protecting vulnerable patients.
Other matters relating to the Children Act 1989, 2004,such as care proceedings safeguarding and local authority duties.

Other Duties
* Undertake other appropriate tasks and duties as delegated by the Hospital Management, Clinical Team and/or Consultant Psychiatrist
* Keep up to date with Hospital policies & procedures and changes within relevant legislation.
* Maintain effective clinical records and patient notes.
* Training. Contribute towards teaching and training internally and externally.
* Supervision. Will be provided internally as required minimum every month. There may be opportunities to provide supervision and training to student social workers if appropriate.

* To be able to have insight and responsibility into your own needs and to raise them when necessary.
