You will be joining an organisation which is committed to helping vulnerable young people become independent, happy young adults. As part of a close knit team, the residential care follows a therapeutic model and focuses needs of each individual child.
As a Residential Support Worker you will be patient and resilient to deal with the young people's challenging behaviours, which are the result of traumatic and negative earlier experiences. All of the children and young people are respected with a positive regard—they are provided with support to help them build safe and appropriate relationships with others.
You and the team will be supported by skilled therapists, clinical psychologists, health and education professionals to help young people deal with their past experiences and prepare for the future.
This leading children's residential care organisation has an excellent induction for all new members of staff along with ongoing therapeutic training modules to enhance your learning and the care you can provide to the children. You will also be supported & funded to attain Diplomas in residential childcare and management. There are lots of career progression opportunities within this region from Senior Support Worker through to Service Manager.
Your role as a Young People's Residential Support Worker will primarily involve:
* Working 3 long days and two sleep in shifts per week, including some weekend days and bank holidays on a rota basis.
* Promoting the children's physical and emotional well-being.
* Encouraging and joining in with the children in taking part in a wide range of activities.
* Motivating the young people's efforts in attaining their goals.
* Dealing with challenging behaviour in a firm but fair way – acting as a surrogate parent to promote positive behaviour.
* Empathising, listening and guiding.
* Keeping daily records and weekly reports up to date.
* Being involved in mealtimes and keeping the house clean and tidy
The successful Young People's Residential Support Worker will have the following skills and experience:
* Previous experience of supporting children / young people with emotional behavioural difficulties or learning disabilities within a residential home or youth work or similar environment.
* Genuinely seeking a career which involves rehabilitating and improving the life chances of disadvantaged young people.
* A full, manual driving licence.
* The ability to be flexible to work long day shifts and sleep ins on a rota basis which will include weekend and bank holiday days
