Be part of a new service within one of England’s leading children’s residential care organisations as a Support Worker for young people leaving care.
The team and homes are being developed and managed by two extremely supportive and experienced children’s care professionals and this is an exciting time to join the service as it is shaped into being one of the best young people’s semi-independent provisions in Buckinghamshire.
You will support young people who are aged between 16 and 21 years who have complex backgrounds and emotional behavioural difficulties within homes in High Wycombe and Aylesbury. This position involves lone working with the support of the Team Manager who will visit and support the service daily.
Your key duties and responsibilities as a Support Worker will include:
* Being responsible for ensuring that the needs of 3 young people are met, guiding them towards the achievement of positive independent living skills.
* Providing advice to young people in all areas of daily life, including budgeting, health, careers, education, relationships, culture, identity, accommodation maintenance and safety.
* Liaising with the young people’s Social Workers and working in partnership with external agencies to provide the best possible holistic care.
* Formulating, implementing and reviewing care plans.
* Writing weekly reports, keeping young people’s files up to date and informing management of any concerns that you have for any of the young people in regards to their welfare or social and family problems.
* Supporting the young people in meetings, making sure that their views are heard and taken into consideration along with transporting them to meetings and appointments.
* Ensuring that the accommodation is kept in good condition and that the young people’s utility bills are correctly organised and paid on time.
* Working long day shifts and sleep ins which will average out to two or three 24 hour shifts per week.
Essential requirements of applicants:
* Previous experience of directly supporting children/young people with challenging behaviour who are looked after
* Previous experience of working within a residential setting
* Excellent time management, record keeping and report writing skills
* Full driving licence with access to your own transport
* Willing to lone work and travel to both High Wycombe and Aylesbury (mileage is paid)
* Willing to work 24-hour shifts which includes weekend days and bank holidays on a rota basis. (Contracted to work on average 40 hours per week and 10 sleep ins per month)
* Commitment to study for and attain the Diploma Level 3 in Residential Childcare within 12 months (if not already held)
