As the Dementia Ambassador, you will be trained by the Alzheimer’s Society to deliver bespoke training to all team members within the care home setting. The role is to advise, guide and support a Care Home team in the delivery of good dementia care by acting as an ambassador for the MMCG dementia strategy within the home, developing the service and to play a key role in raising and promoting awareness, knowledge and understanding of Dementia within Maria Mallaband and the local community to:
Encourage, support and motivate others to make a positive difference to people living with dementia in the care home
Act as an ambassador for MMCG dementia strategy within the home, developing the service in line with the strategy objectives
Promote and share best practice with others, providing information, advice and guidance
Keep staff up to date regarding current dementia issues
Play a key role in raising the awareness, knowledge and understanding of Dementia by empowering other members of the team to develop good practice in caring for people living with dementia
To act as a coach on dementia related matters within your Care Home.
Support people with dementia to have a voice and be heard within the running of one’s home
Be a named point of contact or a specialist resource for colleagues who are working with people living with dementia and their families, carers, friends
To help locally embed dementia related initiatives within MMCG
To deliver learning and development activities, both individually and with community groups to develop capabilities within the Care Home.
What we’ll need from you:
Relevant experience of supporting residents living with dementia within care home environment
Experience of current issues relating to people with dementia and their families
Experience of providing person centred care
Experience of delivering Training
Ability to transfer training knowledge into practice
NVQ level 3 in Health & Social Care or same level qualification in a similar field or willing to work towards
Personal Attributes:
Possess strong communication, coaching and interpersonal skills that inspire and motivate teams
Be able to build and nurture positive relationships with key residents, families & external professionals
Able to deliver company dementia initiatives to support with change and positive outcomes
Have confidence, patience, politeness, tact and diplomacy when dealing with difficult situations
Able to recognise opportunities to support the company purpose at all times
Able to identify people trends and risks within your assigned Care Home
Able to lead by example – disseminate and support new initiatives to improve care and assist in any changes to practice and culture
Act as a resource for staff within their area on issues relating to older people, dementia care and best practice
