COMMERCIAL TRAINEE
WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING:
Supporting the range of functions within the commercial team which covers buying, surveying and estimating. You will be supported to develop a full insight and understanding into these areas. Initially working with our Managing Buyer, you will learn and assist with:
BUYING:
* The process for material enquiries and sending these out for pricing, ensuring that deadlines are met
* How to take-off materials and then prepare schedules to order these materials
* Understand how to complete order approval forms and placing orders within set budgets
* Present to the Managing Buyer a detailed material order approval form, and consulting for guidance if supplier’s quotations exceed the budget value
* Support in the approval process for supplier invoices for payment and resolving any queries
SURVEYING:
* How to prepare sub-contractor enquiries and send out for pricing
* Support in gaining competitive quotes and prices for contract work. Discuss with the Quantity Surveyors sub-contractor prices when returned and established the best value for money quotation.
* Presenting to the Head of Commercial a completed sub-contract order approval form
* Gain a clear understanding of CIS Tax certificates and necessary insurances
ESTIMATING:
* Develop knowledge of how build cost estimates are developed by measuring the quantities from the outline, planning and working drawings.
SKILLS:
* Desire to work in the property industry
* Proactive attitude and willingness to take on responsibility
* Attention to detail, literate and numerate
* Good IT skills, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.
* Excellent written and verbal communication
* Self-motivation and enthusiasm
* Team player
* Personable, friendly, helpful and with a positive attitude
* A valid UK driving licence
