Bletchley Park is a vibrant heritage attraction, open daily to visitors, revealing the secrets and telling fascinating stories of the secret British World War Two codebreaking operations. The mission of the Bletchley Park Trust is to attract, engage and educate people from all over the world in order to inspire them with Bletchley Park’s crucial role in World War Two.
We are currently recruiting for a part-time Caretaker, to work Friday & Saturday each week, at out site in Bletchley, Milton Keynes. You will receive a company pension scheme, healthcare cash-plan and holiday pro rata 33 days pa including statutory holidays.
As a part time Caretaker, you will take responsibility for the care and upkeep of the Bletchley Park site and buildings, including keeping the building secure, maintaining the cleanliness of the site and buildings, assisting with health and safety checks/assessments and undertaking minor repairs of building and equipment as required.
This position will include regular lifting, carrying and working at height (using ladders).
At Bletchley Park, we are looking for a Caretaker who has the following skills and experiences:
Hard-working, practical, honest and dependable.
Approachable, with good inter-personal and communication skills
Ability to work with others and as part of a team.
Understanding of health and safety requirements.
Ability to show initiative and be self-motivated.
Holder of a clean, valid driving licence.
Knowledge of cleaning standards and COSHH rules.
Willingness to assist in non-skilled tasks and general labouring duties
Ability to prioritise tasks to ensure customer satisfaction is paramount.
A knowledge of and interest in the Bletchley Park story and a willingness to promote the Trust’s mission.
This Caretakers role is public facing and as such a dress code is in place.
As a Caretaker at Bletchley Park, your responsibilities will include:
Maintaining the cleanliness and tidiness of the site at all times.
Ensuring all toilets on site remain clean, tidied and stocked with provisions.
Ensuring visitor buildings remain clean and tidy.
Locking and unlocking buildings as per rota and turning all external building lights off when unlocking and on when locking in the evening.
Ensuring office, staff, learning and other non-public areas remain clean, undertaking tasks outside of the cleaner’s responsibilities.
Wearing Personal Protective Equipment (clothing) as appropriate and to follow Health and Safety procedures at all times.
Collecting and delivering articles in the site van.
Undertaking minor repairs to buildings or equipment as requested, within capabilities.
Meeting, directing and supervising contractors on site.
Being available for out-of-hours call-out, dependent on rota.
Assisting with furniture and equipment set-up, shifting and take-down for events, office
relocations and exhibitions.
The role will be manned by 2 Caretakers who must work together to ensure leave entitlements are covered by the team as far as reasonable. You must cover for one another’s annual leave.
You will be working 21 hours per week, every Friday and Saturday 07:00-18:00 and will must be available for out-of-hours call-out on occasions. Additional hours worked will be recompensated.
The salary for this role is £10,701.60 per annum (£9.80 per hour) with a view to increasing to £11,400.48 per annum (£10.44 per hour) following the successful completion of a 6-month probationary period.
