SHEQ Director
Renewi’s SHEQ function is going through an exciting time of development and change, as SHEQ Director for Specialities Division (which includes three separate business lines across the UK, Netherlands, Belgium, France, and Portugal) you will be in a position to drive and influence the realisation of some big ambitions, working in a diverse international business. As part of both the divisional management team and the SHEQ Group Leadership team, this position is key in partnering with the business to deliver the safety and sustainability elements of the strategy, alongside delivering the SHEQ strategy effectively within the division. In addition to the divisional role, this position is accountable for the operational SHEQ for the UK organisation.
The Specialities SHEQ Director will be a true Business Partner to the Managing Director and Senior Leadership Team, working in coordination with the Group SHEQ Director. They will have ultimate responsibility for all safety and sustainability-based activities within the Division from both operational and strategic perspectives.
Frequent travel is required across the UK, Netherlands, Belgium, France and Portugal. EU travel required approximately one week per month.
SHEQ Director Responsibilities:
Develop and agree strategic plans for SHEQ and related activities that develop the service to meet current and future needs of the business and ensure the organisation achieves world class levels of health, safety, environmental and sustainability performance.
Ensure that short- and longer-term plans and approaches are developed, agreed and implemented to meet contract requirements, relevant legislation and all business strategies and objectives.
Lead, support and coach the SHEQ team to support the UK contracts working closely and in partnership with operational Directors and Managers.
Guide, influence and co-ordinate group and divisional safety cultural initiatives with Maltha and Coolrec businesses with sites located across the Netherlands, Belgium, France and Portugal.
Drive safety cultural change, leadership initiatives and improvement across the division.
Represent the division at group and board level reporting progress to objectives, KPI’s and initiatives.
Line manage the UK SHEQ team; ensure all team members are provided with support and advice as necessary and are fully able to support their contract
Monitor and control expenditure of SHEQ budget.
Ensure all accidents, incidents, near misses and non-conformities are correctly reported and investigated in accordance with corporate procedures.
Represent Renewi at trade association (ESA) working groups; H&S and Climate, and lobby government as required.
Monitor external UK developments, participate in UK industry forums, assess best practice and market development, ensure that all developments relevant to the business are proposed and implemented internally to improve business compliance and performance.
SHEQ Director Requirements:
Significant SHEQ leadership experience with relevant degree or NEBOSH Diploma level in Occupational Health and Safety, or equivalent environmental/sustainability qualification.
Experience of partnering with and influencing geographically dispersed management teams.
Effective multiple stakeholder management, preferably in a matrixed organisation structure.
Strong management skills and experience of managing diverse teams.
Experience of partnering and collaborating at a senior SHEQ level.
Experience of delivering UK safety cultural transformation.
Previous knowledge of sustainability reporting, carbon analysis and data management.
Proficient in improving and embedding ISO Standards (45001, 14001 and 9001) with lead auditing experience.
Strong track record in delivering company-level change management initiatives.
Demonstrable success in the development and implementation of SHEQ strategies.
First-hand experience of dealing with regulatory bodies stakeholders and external clients.
