Job Title – Safety Strategy Manager (Rail)
Location – working from home/The Quadrant, Milton Keynes
Rates – £474.52 LTD/Umbrella or £414.31 PAYE – In Scope of IR35
About the role / project:
Working on the safety strategy across all regions for Network Rail. The role will involve liaising with business managers and strategy managers across Network Rail to create the new safety strategy management document for passengers and the Network Rail workforce. The role will also involve reviewing existing documents and dealing with complex and conflicting views whilst compiling the new safety strategy documents which will be short & punchy.
Provide strategic direction to the Chief Safety Officer. Provide timely and compelling safety advice and provide vision and motivational leadership across the business.
Set the long-term functional objectives and framework for safety across Network Rail.
Develop strategy, business objectives and performance measures to enable Network Rail to meet its responsibilities for management of key safety impacts in all of its operations.
Support the business with liaison and negotiation with statutory bodies and other safety stakeholders for Network Rail taking into account the business requirements and reputation risks. Where needed lead functional discussions with regulators for England, Scotland and Wales.
Lead the review and comment on consultations relating to safety issues and identify risks and opportunities. Make recommendations about the business processes to incorporate requirements and responsibilities.
Review, and accept as appropriate, recommendations arising from formal investigations and other investigations into safety issues.
Lead on communication of Network Rail's safety vision and strategy to wider public, stakeholders and wider industry.
Utilise evidence from assurance activities that enable Network Rail to improve our safety performance, standards and policies.Your experience will include:
Rail – ideal
Experience of creating new policy documents
IOSH/NEBOSH
Relevant Degree in health and safety management or equivalent
Demonstrable experience of health and safety management, forming policy and delivering projects or enhancements
Proven experience in delivery of large change projects in an infrastructure setting
Excellent understanding of the legal framework health and safety
Ability to influence decision makers at all levels
Ability to lead staff/teams to deliver results
Good knowledge of Government Policy relating to health and safety
Membership of an appropriate professional body e.g. IOSHWhat you'll get in return
