Events Manager – Maternity Cover
Salary: £40,000 to £41,500 depending on experience
Maternity cover full time – 35 hours per week
Location – Princes Risborough
Our client are a professional membership organisation that sets the standards for the project profession. They are a registered charity and deliver education and develop qualifications.
They are looking for an accomplished, experienced Event Manager to lead a team to deliver their most high-profile, flagship conferences and awards during an exciting year for the organisation. They will be celebrating its 50th year in 2022, with the flagship events playing a key role in the activities around this.
The successful candidate will be an excellent communicator who is experienced in leading teams and engaging with a variety of stakeholders. They should have extensive knowledge and experience of managing large face to face and virtual events and experience of awards, judging processes and ceremony production. An appreciation of the role of project management and its importance across organisations and wider society is an advantage. The role is also responsible for developing engaging and appropriate conference programmes and sessions in line with key themes that provide real value for varied audiences.
The ideal candidate will have a background in conference content production, ideally in both face to face and virtual events. This part of the role includes using insight and experience to understand audience needs, liaising with a variety of internal and external stakeholders to develop session topics and formats, and sourcing and working with speakers to produce engaging content. As a result, experience of managing conference programmes is essential.
This role is responsible for budget setting, budget management and regular financial forecasting of both cost and income, so experience in these areas is essential. Line management experience is also essential as this role does have direct reports.
The role is maternity cover role starting in early 2022. Qualified to degree level or have comparable work experience is essential. An Event management qualification or management qualification is desirable.
The events manager will attend all flagship events (approx. 3-4 across the year face to face) which sometimes involves evening working.
Experience
* Working in a membership organisation, and / or a professional body/association
* Building valuable and effective relationships with a variety of stakeholders, including event suppliers, sponsors, colleagues, and volunteers
* Delivering against strategic goals and KPIs
Skills
* Producing accurate budgets with sound revenue and cost management and ability to accurately forecast
* Outstanding communication skills, both in terms of written and oral work, with experience of communicating effectively with broad range of internal and external stakeholders
* Good people management, including line management skills and an ability to lead, motivate and develop a team
* Analytical thinking / ability to mine and utilise data to make strategic decisions and set targets
* PC skills including full range of Microsoft Office and Teams.
* Knowledge and understanding of other external systems including virtual conference systems and awards entries platforms
* Good presentation skills
