We are currently recruiting for a Shift Manager to work with The Department of Health Social Care to work at the Mega Lab. You will work closely with the Associate Principal Scientist to ensure all support services are in place to allow the smooth operation of the patient testing process lab line. This will include the timely delivery of samples, consumables and reagents, removal of hazardous and non-hazardous waste, scheduling of appropriate training and competent resources and ensuring equipment is available and services.
Responsibilities:
* Work closely with the Associate Principal Scientist to support the smooth running of the lab line, ensuring its effective operation by providing all necessary resources (staff and equipment) as required to achieve KPI’s for turnaround times, quality and health & safety
* Responsible for people resource management across the lab line, including organising and managing staff placement, competency levels and overall resource/utilisation. This may also include ensuring banked hours (envisaged in the formal shift patterns) are managed effectively to minimise overtime spend, liaising with other lab lines to maximise resource capacity
* Ensure an effective local induction for all new joiners and offboarding for all leavers
* Ensure staff issues are handled on a consistent, fair basis in accordance with the lab’s values, resolving wherever possible at a local level in accordance with site HR policies and procedures
* Ensure adequate provisioning of consumables for the lab line
* Maintain, with the Associate Principal Scientist, a live ‘shift notes’ document and ensure a smooth transition between shifts by delivering detailed briefings and thorough handovers
* In collaboration with the Associate Principal Scientist and Room leads, encourage continuous improvement of the operational procedures, systems and principles in the areas of information flow and management, and support the recording and closing out of Non-Conformities in a timely manner
* Contribute to strategic planning and reviews, analysing process workflow, and supporting implementation of necessary change
