We're currently seeking Section Managers based in and around Milton Keynes to work within a state of the art, high output diagnostics laboratory environment as part of the UK's NHS Test and Trace programme.

Your responsibilities:
As a Section Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of a section associated with the daily testing of Covid-19 samples. You will be reporting to the Shift Manager on a daily basis, but as required by circumstance, you will assume responsibility for the Section Supervisor and Laboratory Operators/Assistants, escalating where appropriate.
You will have overarching responsibility for managing and training new and current laboratory staff with the Section Supervisor and be responsible for the timely reporting and investigation of incidents. Working closely with the senior Biomedical Scientists, you will manage and continue to develop the SARS-CoV-2 RNA testing processes, to ensure work in the laboratory is undertaken safely, efficiently and to the quality standards required of ISO15189:2012 laboratory accreditation.
This will require you to be able to create and review documents in line with the above accreditation using the laboratory eQMS (Q-Pulse). You will be required to assist with troubleshooting and helping to ensure the validity and quality of results to the highest standards.
You will be responsible for liaising between the Training and Quality Departments and the Section Supervisors, regularly reviewing the training processes and maintaining competencies. This role will also require you to line manage a team of staff to aid their (and your own) development and progression.
Your experience:
In order to be successful in the role of Senior Biomedical Scientist, you'll need the following education, experience and skills:
Education:
BSc Honours degree in a biological science.Experience:
Experience within laboratory setting (academic, clinical or industrial)
Experience of maintaining documents and procedures within laboratory accreditation specifications (ISO15189:2012/ISO17025:2019)
Understanding of the importance of Incident Reporting, RCA and CAPA.
A comprehensive understanding of health and safety protocols in a lab environment
Significant experience in molecular biology, including PCR and immunoassays
Experience of working with LIMS
Skills:
Evidence of organisational, communication and team-working skills
Evidence of training and supervision of staff in a laboratory setting
Demonstrable experience of line managing people
Positive attitude with proven problem-solving skillsIn addition, the following education and experience are also desirable but not mandatory:
Education:
Degree in Biomedical Sciences and/or PhDExperience:
Knowledge of health and safety regulations and experience
Experience of using liquid handling robots (e.g. TECAN/ Hamilton liquid handling systems) and/or
Experience of viral RNA testing using real-time (RT) PCR methodology or end-point PCR and/or
Experience with handling human biological samples and working at containment level 2 or containment level 3In return:
