Band 8B General Manager – Obstetrics, Gynaecology and Acute Paediatrics
The post-holder will assist the divisional director, SDU Leads and senior nurses by providing efficient and effective operational and general service management in each area, ensuring that services are responsive, innovative and provided to the highest possible clinical and performance standards. He/she will also take forward projects to improve service delivery and patient experience in key areas, and lead on ensuring that all performance and quality targets are met.
Temporary: Expected to last 6 Months and potentially longer
Location: Aylesbury,
Pay Rate: Up to £32.00 per hour paye plus holiday or up to £36 per hour umbrella, depending on skill and experience
Hours: 37.5 hours per week

The General Manager will have responsibility for the operational management and business development of the following areas:
* Be operationally responsible for all wards including the Day procedures
* Be responsible for administrative staff.
* Be operationally responsible for achieving RTT and cancer targets with the medicine specialities, and escalation non-compliance risks with mitigation plans.
* Work collaboratively with other GM’s across the organisation to drive service improvement, and best practice in line with the NHS Long term plan.
Business and Operational Planning and Delivery
In support of the Divisional Director, SDU Leads, and senior nurses, and in conjunction with the Division’s management team:
* Develop and implement local delivery plans that will meet service needs, and contribute to the annual planning process of the Trust in line with agreed corporate objectives and priorities.
* Plan and manage the implementation of projects to modernise services and to improve facilities and working practices to meet organisational and service delivery plans.
* Ensure strong financial service performance against plans through identification of problems at an early stage and the initiation of corrective action.
* Ensure effective communication systems are in place throughout the SDUs in portfolio, and between and across other relevant service areas, where relationships are key to the delivery of safe and effective care to patients.
* Be responsible for the day-to-day efficient and effective operational management of the defined service areas, reporting to the Divisional Director in all matters affecting the delivery of core services.
* Ensure that clinical teams within the SDUs respond to operational issues on a day-today basis, and ensure issues are swiftly resolved.
* Develop and implement longer-term solutions to issues raised. These will include complex approaches requiring the support and agreement of large teams of people and management of projects that deliver change.
Performance Management
* Support the Trust’s performance management framework in relation to RTT and cancer and be accountable for performance in those service areas against all key performance measures within the framework, including the achievement of national clinical quality indicators, taking corrective action as required.
* Receive written and verbal daily monitoring reports on patient pathway in relation to national clinical quality indicators targets (RTT and cancer), ensuring that any delays or obstacles on the patient pathway are resolved and any risks to performance are escalated to the Divisional Director and SDU Leads.
* Review and escalate to the SDU Lead and Divisional Director, performance indicator information in line with performance management framework:
* Produce reports and remedial action plans on key performance issues for the Divisional Director, as required.
Workforce and Development
* Provide and develop a working environment and open culture which fosters high morale and commitment among all staff and promotes their wellbeing and personal development.
* Lead on the development of specific staff engagement measures within the defined service areas, and support the implementation of the Division’s Staff Survey and
* Engagement action plan, so that staff are able to contribute effectively to the achievement of objectives and targets
* Ensure that key workforce performance measures are delivered for the defined services, including sickness absence, appraisal, statutory and mandatory training, turnover and staff engagement.
* Provide day-to-day management of direct reports within the defined service areas (see organisational chart), addressing any issues of poor performance in line with Trust policy.
* Be responsible for effective utilisation of Trust Human Resources policy in relation to recruitment, appraisal, development and other policies, as required.
* Ensure that workforce equality objectives are developed, and that measures are in place to monitor and achieve them.
* Undertake general staff management and team development activities, with the aim of ensuring that team members are engaged, understand and share the vision of the service, and have the skills to achieve the highest possible standards of performance
