Lead Biomedical Scientist (Molecular Biology)
Location: Milton Keynes
Contract: 6 months (extension highly likely)

I am looking for a Lead Biomedical Scientist to join a high throughput Diagnostic Lab in Milton Keynes.
The successful candidate will assist with the management of personnel and processes in the testing laboratory. You will work closely with the Laboratory Director, laboratory operations, scientific support senior Biomedical Scientist (BMS) and other operation managers, to ensure that lab processes are carried out safely, efficiently and to the quality standards required of ISO15189:2012 laboratory accreditation. You will responsibility for SARS-CoV-2 RNA testing processes, SARS-CoV-2 mutation assays and sequencing methodologies as well as line management responsibility for senior BMS staff.
Key Responsibilities:
Act as a designated individual in all aspects of data and quality assurance.
Manage laboratory staff.
Assist laboratory management in ensuring compliance with organisational quality standards and H&S requirements.
Liaising between Scientific Support and the BMS team, propose, oversee and develop new and existing techniques, equipment and working practices.
To participate in the development of the team, including undertaking personal development reviews.
To support the development and maintenance of good working relationships with internal customers and external agencies by representing the organisation on working or user groups.
To lead the BMS team in order to maintain UKAS accreditation.
To ensure that the department is kept clean, tidy and safe at all times.
Responsible person for the Ugentec Fastfinder (results software) technical relationship and performing validation of change and reporting those results to the DHSC.
Together with principal scientist, organize weekly troubleshooting meetings with Clinical Advisor (Consultant Medical Virologist)
To attend and contribute briefings and reports to both senior management meetings and external stakeholders.
Key requirements:
Master's degree recognised by the Institute for Biomedical Science (IBMS); an in-depth knowledge of virology or microbiology.
HCPC registration.
Previous experience as senior biomedical scientist in a diagnostic or high throughput virology or microbiology laboratory
Extensive experience using RT-PCR methodology and of authorising or validating RT-PCR results and methodology.
Extensive experience of laboratory quality management and information management systems. Familiarity with laboratory accreditation and/or licencing requirements.
Ability to interpret internal and external quality assurance results and to take appropriate corrective actions/investigations
Experience of maintaining documents and procedures within laboratory accreditation specifications (including COSHH, SOPs and training /competency); awareness of Health and Safety regulations and procedures.
Experience of training and supervising in a laboratory setting.
