We're currently seeking Laboratory Technical Support Officers based in and around Milton Keynes to work within a state of the art, high output diagnostics laboratory environment as part of the UK's NHS Test and Trace programme.
As well as playing a vital role in supporting society's return to a more normal way of life by helping to break the chains of COVID-19 transmission, you will also gain invaluable experience and exposure to some of the country's most highly skilled individuals in the scientific community.

Your responsibilities:
As a Laboratory Technical Support Officer, you'll play a vital part in supporting a smooth running of the laboratory on a day-to-day basis. This is a key role within the laboratory and will involve liaising with Lab Operations Managers, Shift Managers and Section Leads to ensure the laboratory is always fully functional and can meet the throughput of the requirements of the projects.
Additionally, the Laboratory Technical Support Officer working within the technical services team will need to communicate closely with the quality team to ensure the laboratory can meet the requirements of the ISO15189 Medical Laboratories standard and with the IT team to ensure the instruments and equipment are fully supported.
The role will suit a proven team player, with experience working in a fast-paced laboratory environment who is keen to develop technical automation knowledge.
Your experience:
In order to be successful, you'll need the following essential education, experience and skills:
Education:
· Scientific A-Level (Or equivalent)
Experience:
· Experience of working successfully within a team
· Experience working in a laboratory setting (academic, clinical or industrial)
· Proven ability to communication effectively with staff at all levels
· Previous experience of training in processes
Skills:
· Excellent time management and prioritisation skills
· Understanding of laboratory/instrument, how they function and the ability to diagnose and trouble shoot equipment issues
· Pro-active attitude towards process improvement
·
· Ability to manage own workload
· Ability to write and review SOPs
· Ability to implement a process
· Ability to resolve issues directly or determine correct escalation path if required
In addition, the following education and experience are also desirable but not mandatory:
Please note that as a Laboratory Technical Support Officer, you are not required to have extensive experience across all desirable competencies described above and will be provided with training and accreditation for the roles and processes you are required to undertake.

· Experience of equipment/instrument maintenance

As well as a competitive rate of pay (with a 10% uplift applied for night working and end of contract bonus), you'll receive comprehensive training on relevant lab procedures and equipment.
