We are currently recruiting for Laboratory Technical Support Officers to assist our client in Milton Keynes.
This is a key role within the laboratory and will involve liaising with Lab Operations Managers, Shift Managers and Section Leads to ensure the laboratory is always fully functional and can meet the throughput of the requirements of the projects.
Additionally, the Laboratory Technical Support Officer working within the technical services team will need to communicate closely with the quality team to ensure the laboratory can meet the requirements of the ISO15189 Medical Laboratories standard, and with the IT team to ensure the instruments and equipment are fully supported.
The role will suit a proven team player, with experience working in a fast-paced laboratory environment who is keen to develop technical automation knowledge.
Working Hours: Rotational shift, 4 weeks of day shift (8am-8pm) and then 4 weeks of night shift (8pm-8am) you will also be working a 7 day fortnight, so will need to be available to work any day of the week including weekends
Length of Contract: Fixed Term Contract until Sept 2021
Pay Rate: £13.57 per hour (£28,400 annual salary)
The Role:
* Works to support the Laboratory Technical Services Team
* Ability to diagnose and/or fix basic instrumental failures and errors within the laboratories
* Responsibility for planning and maintaining equipment calibration procedures
* Manage and undertake laboratory equipment routine preventative maintenance
* Ensure IQOQ, service, maintenance and calibration records are saved appropriately
* Co-ordinate calibration, maintenance and service activities provided by external suppliers.
* Interface with Quality Team to ensure compliance with ISO15189
* Interface with IT team to ensure instruments are supported
* Works closely with the laboratories to ensure availability of equipment resourceCreating, updating and maintaining the asset register for the laboratory equipment.
Essential Criteria
* Excellent time management and prioritisation skills.
* Understanding of laboratory equipment/instruments and how they function.
* Experience of working successfully within a team.
* Ability to manage own workload.
* Ability to diagnose and troubleshoot equipment issues.
* Ability to write and review SOPs.
* Ability to implement a process.
* Ability to resolve issues directly or determine correct escalation path if required.
* Proven ability to communicate effectively with staff at all levels.
* Pro-active attitude towards process improvement.
* Previous experience of training in processes.
* An adept learner who can 'hit the ground running’.
Desirable Criteria
* Biological sciences BSc degree or higher (or equivalent).
* Experience of equipment/instrument maintenance.
