Orion Group are recruiting for a Category Development Team Leader on behalf of our Multinational Medical Client on an initial 3 month contract based in the Buckinghamshire or Berkshire Area
The Category Team Leader owns the delivery of our in store objectives in one of our key categories. They do this by building compelling category growth stories and related tactics, convincing customers that our plans will deliver balanced category growth and then ensuring excellent execution.
Identifying and building partnerships with our retailers through the deployment of our category strategies and relevant solutions, builds a competitive edge for the company and by better meeting shopper needs enables us to grow the category for the mutual benefit of both ourselves and our retailers.
Externally, you will lead a team to engage with customers and deliver excellent execution of the category fundamentals. They will be able to clearly articulate the "look of success" and find ways to ensure it is delivered through their team. They will be a consistent champion of the category/shopper and be able to demonstrate the depth and breadth of our insight. They will be expected to personally engage with mid (category manager) and senior (category director) contacts at our key customers, getting actively involved with building positive relationships and delivering aligned initiatives in partnership.
Internally, you will act as the focal point for a specific category and be the "point" person in the Category team for both the Sales & marketing teams.
This is a critical member of the Shopper leadership team and will be expected to work alongside the Business Unit Heads to drive overarching priorities like Health and Wellness.
Main Duties/Responsibilities
Customer Delivery:
Lead the development of the in-store / on-line look of success for the category across all key customers and ensure impactful shopper solutions are put in place to support the vision.
Work with Business Unit Heads to develop activity plans that deliver against customer needs, company aspirations and instore targets
Lead category vision engagement and deployment for their given category, directly and through team as appropriate.
Develop contact strategy to deliver plans and secure joint value creation category projects.
Be the specialist on category performance and drivers for customers, drive external orientation and lead competitor insight
Provide thought leadership for category planning days, engaging personally with key customers and ensuring the team deliver elsewhere.
Lead team on work against joint value creation opportunities for company and key customers.
Lead strategy into action reviews / business reviews with customer team quarterly and ensure a strong contact strategy with BUHs.
Show strategic leadership across the business, acting as a voice of the shopper
Challenge, mentor and encourage team in their development of winning channel category plans.
Lead category team input into all parts of the IBP process providing clear mentorship on level of category growth to be encouraged, incorporating insight on shoppers, category, customer, competition, channel and external environment to help shape go to market plans for retailers.
Ensure the team are effective partners / participants in PIPs and input the right category /shopper elements to drive the right outcomes in these forums.Desired Qualifications and Experience:
University/Bachelor's Degree or Equivalent
Recognised as a source of motivation and dedication, including the ability to build
Compelling strategies for the team as well as across the broader CD organisation.

Ability to develop strong relationships across multiple partners.

Pro-actively adapts strategy and team priorities based on assessment of current and future business conditions.
Regulatory and compliance focused.
Commercial and Financial acumen, using both to advise decision making.
