Job Summary
Responsible for manufacturing case bound books subject to specifications described in the LSI operating manual.
Essential Job Duties:
* Operate all LSI equipment used in the production of quality case bound books, in accordance with LSI’s Operating Manual and manufacturers’ instructions.
* Operate and maintain case binding equipment to maximize “up time” for case binding production
* Prepare book blocks, covers and jackets for casing-in (organize parts, apply head band, selecting spine boards, cutting board & covers); build case bound book utilizing Casing in Machine (the “Sticker”), apply cover to book block using Building in Machine (the “Smasher”); apply jackets to finished case bound book; perform preliminary quality control check; and cleaning and performing preventive maintenance on case binding equipment.
* Follow instructions given by Case Binding Specialist and Lead Operators
* When required, and if qualified to do so, operate all equipment used in the production of black & white text blocks including printers, binders, and cutters
* Other duties as assigned
* To be responsible for your own Health and Safety and be aware of factors affecting your colleagues in order to maintain a safe environment.
* To report any accidents, potential hazards to your Line Manager immediately.
Skills:
* Must be a self-motivated, self-starting individual with a strong work ethic.
* Must be analytical; detail oriented; and capable of developing a proficient understanding of case binding techniques and processes.
* Ability to effectively utilize and maintain case binding equipment; and communicate clearly and effectively.
Essential Physical Demands:
* Ability to walk and stand continuously during the assigned shift.
* Ability to grip/grasp continuously during the assigned shift.
* Ability to bend, kneel/squat, twist/turn, reach above shoulder, and type/keyboard frequently during the assigned shift.
* Ability to work designated 12 hour shift including overtime as required.
Decision Making Examples:
* Determine proper size of case materials to fit book block.
* Inspect completed cover for defects and correct defects, if found.
* Determine that Casing-In equipment is working correctly and producing a product that meets LSI quality standards, and if not, adjust the equipment to produce such a result
