Communications Manager
Renewi have a fantastic opportunity for a Communications Manager. Reporting into the Group Head of Comms, your key area of responsibility will be the UK Division and you will work closely with the MD, providing comms counsel as a business partner and ensuring successful delivery of the communications strategy for the Division.
The Role
The Communications Manager is responsible for gaining clarity around the Group strategy and the business strategy and drawing on it to prepare an internal/external (media) communications strategy and plan. There are three main areas of responsibility (internal, external and project management), with the key focus on Internal Communications.
Internal Communications
• Actively follow employee sentiment within the UK business (drawn from Pulse surveys and focus groups)
• Support leader to bring confidence in the UK business strategy
• Review/assess communication channels across the UK business and advise where changes need to be made
• Support the MD to prepare presentation decks/scripts/stories for colleague comms
• Project manage the roll out of digital communications channel, and ongoing management of the channel.
• ensure successful employee engagement, including encouraging non desk-based workers to download the App on their mobile phone and follow communication materials
• Script write communications including (but not limited to) emails, newsletters and video communications. Co-author (with the management team) scripts for townhall-type events
• Regular flow of people stories (promoting values including prioritising employee safety, strategic business priorities, people priorities and customer success)
• Co-ordinate communications with the comms points of contacts (on site comms advocates) and secure their active support in delivering internal materials.
External/PR communications
• Manage issues/crisis communications (managing reputation), actively responding to media queries.
• Pro-actively monitor competitor market activity and stay abreast of topics trending in the media.
• Engage with business leaders and site leaders to prepare relevant media content, securing placement of articles in targeted press.
Project manage production of the Group Annual Report/Sustainability Report.
• Work with the Head of Communications to produce reports for investors once per year.
• Manage stakeholders across the business to deliver content on time/to standard.
• Support the agency to deliver the finished product timeously.
Skills and Experience Required
• Previous experience of working in internal communications is essential
• Experience in communications with experience delivering internal and external communications
• Experience working with a sophisticated digital channel
• Strong Project management skills
• Ability to think creatively and strategically and problem-solving capability
• Proven strong literacy and written communication skills – ability to produce both internal and external content essential
• Experience in selling stories to the press
• Credible and confident to be able to communicate at all levels across the business
• A track record in working with and adapting to new technology
• Stakeholder management skills
• A team player who is hands on, pro-active and self-driven
• Degree in Communications or related discipline

Location: Milton Keynes
Shift: Monday to Friday days
Salary: £50,000 to £55,000 per annum
