Position overview:
To plan, direct and manage the quality control management system to ensure that all can production meets customer requirements and no can despatches are made to customers, which are below the acceptable standard from the aspects of both product integrity and packaging.
The Quality Supervisor/Food Safety Officer reports to the Quality Manager. The QCs on shift report to this role and the Senior QCs report to the Quality Manager.
Key responsibilities:
* To ensure all quality control checks are carried out at the required frequencies as detailed in the quality management system
* To ensure that all can production meets customer requirements and no cans which are below the acceptable standards are despatched to customers
* Monitoring quality achievement and ensuring that when non-conformances are found, corrective action is taken and is recorded and is effective
* Management of the Milton Keynes Cuedox system & control of documentation, including regular review & amendment of SOP’S, standards, forms & procedures to ensure compliance for both internal & external requirements (EQP Compliance & Governing body Certification)
* To interpret results of quality checks and present conclusions to production personnel and management, highlighting results that are outside specifications or showing negative trends and the resultant problems that this will cause to the finished product or for the customer, share information at the morning and mid-shift meetings in order to improve the Process Quality Control
* Implementation of any special quality plans for specific customer requirements, ensuring that all product quality related records are retained in a controlled manner, training personnel in the operation of inspection and test equipment, implementation of training related to the Quality Department and equipment, management of Quality Inductions & Hygiene Training
* Ensuring good quality of incoming materials by reference to certificates of conformity and actual test data supplied
* To review existing process controls and product verification techniques and seek improvements through improved processes, methods or equipment. Control of Quality equipment – calibration, servicing & records
* Daily review of any materials or product that has been isolated (HFI) and making disposition decisions as appropriate. Reducing spoilage to a minimum through re-work and releasing by concession of non-conforming product. Analysis of HFI trends and control of HFI stocks. Produce a monthly HFI summary report detailing defect analysis and issue to all relevant departmental heads
* Monthly recording of Quality KPI’s, Plant Flash Reports, HFI trend reporting and issues to the QA Manager for reporting to the SLT – update Quality info boards with KPI and HFI trends
* Implementation of Internal audit activities and documentation, includes assisting QA Manager with organisation of schedule planner, organising area process audits and Internal audits and recording of non-conformances and updating the corrective action List Involvement with Workplace audits and area audits as and when required
* Responding to customer complaints in a timely manner. Investigating the cause of any customer complaints to establish how the problem occurred and why it was not found by our quality system, assisting with root cause analysis, containment & corrective actions
* Liaison with suppliers to report material problems and verify that corrective action has been taken
* Deputising in the absence of the Quality Manager. Provide cover for the Print Technologist as and when required and support the Graphics team where required for new designs
* Management of the Quality Control Inspectors on crew, carrying out regular reviews with the QCs including start of and year end appraisals and training matrix’s
* To manage all site Food Safety to meet the requirements of relevant industry standards, including organisation of regular meetings to ensure the requirements of relevant industry standards are met (Group EQP’s, ISO 9001 & FSSC 22000) – Steering Meetings – Pest Control – Plant Hygiene – Food Safety Incident reporting
* Participate in workplace inspection, gemba walks & production monitoring activities
* Management of the SEA / 5WHY processes including follow up of incidents, updating the tracker and action list
Requirements for this position
* HNC/Degree – technical, quality or business studies discipline
* HACCP level 3
* Food Safety and food defence training
* Line management experience/ successful track record in man management
* Quality certification
* Internal audit certification
* Manufacturing background in a high speed, high volume continuous process
* Good understanding of modern lean manufacturing techniques – SMED, Kaizen 5S, Kanban, Structured Problem solving, TPM/OEE, SPC, 6 Sigma etc
* Management style heavily orientated to training and coaching
* Good computer skills – ability to manage via computerised data
