Band 8B General Manager – Cancer Performance and Improvement
The post holder will be responsible for performance management, service improvement, business development, strategy, and non-clinical management input for cancer-related services across the trust with particular emphasis on close working with the Professional Heads of Service and SDU leads to develop relationships with all stakeholders and improve Quality.
The post-holder will assist the Trust Cancer Lead Clinician, Divisional Director(s), SDU Leads, and Nursing Leads by providing efficient and effective operational and general service management to services providing cancer related activities, ensuring that services are responsive, innovative, and provided to the highest possible clinical and performance standards. He/she will also take forward projects to improve cancer service delivery and patient experience in key areas.
Temporary: Expected to last 6 Months and potentially longer
Location: Aylesbury,
Pay Rate: Up to £32.00 per hour paye plus holiday or up to £36 per hour umbrella, depending on skill and experience
Hours: 37.5 hours per week
Job details:
Leadership.
* Provide visible leadership throughout the defined service areas, and to lead, enthuse and empower staff to deliver the best for patients and staff.
* Lead and support cultural change within the defined service areas by modelling the Trust’s service standards and core values and listening and acting on patient and staff feedback.
* Create an environment where clinicians and staff are held to account for quality of care and the effective use of resources.
* Act as an ambassador for the Trust at all times.
Business and Operational Planning and Delivery
In support of the Chief Operating Officer, Director of Performance and Planning, Divisional Director, the SDU/Leads and specialist/senior Nurses/Midwives, across all areas of the trust involved in cancer services to:
* Develop and implement Business and Strategic service delivery plans that will meet service needs, and contribute to the annual planning process of the Trust in line with agreed corporate objectives and priorities.
* Plan and manage the implementation of projects to improve cancer services across the organisation and to improve facilities and working practices to meet organisational and service delivery plans.
* Ensure strong financial service performance against plans through identification of problems at an early stage and the initiation of corrective action.
* Ensure effective communication systems are in place throughout all SDUs providing cancer related services, and between and across other relevant service areas, where relationships are key to the delivery of safe and effective care to patients
Performance Management
* Support the Trust’s performance management framework for all cancer services and be accountable for monitoring performance, escalating concerns, and supporting SDUs in those service areas against all key performance measures within the framework, including the achievement of national Access and Quality targets across the SDU’s, recommending, and taking corrective action as required.
* Receive written and verbal daily monitoring reports on cancer patient pathway in relation to access targets, ensuring that any delays or obstacles in the patient pathway are resolved through the accountable SDUs. Ensure any risks to performance and quality are escalated to the Director of Performance and Planning / Divisional Director.
* Review and escalate to the Director of Performance and Planning / Divisional Director, performance indicator information in line with performance management framework.
* Produce reports and remedial action plans on key performance issues for the Director of Performance and Planning / Divisional Director, as required
People Management
* With clinicians, managers and HR develop workforce plans ensuring that professional and non-professional workforce requirements are identified, recognising the organisational challenges.
* Ensure communication mechanisms operate effectively so that there is an inclusive culture where all staff can become involved in influencing and supporting the achievement of the service and operational strategies.
* Oversee, review, implement and monitor working practices, ensure proposed changes are agreed with appropriate staff.
* Ensure that adequate staffing levels with an appropriate skill mix are maintained at all times; staff deployment must support maximum use of available resource
