Legal Counsel: International Programmes
Salary: c. £40,000 per annum, depending on experience + good range of benefits
Contract: Permanent – 36.5 hours per week
Based: Milton Keynes and or hybrid/ remote working (UK based only) options will be considered
Do you have experience advising on corporate or contract law matters?
Sitting within the Policy & Programmes team, Legal Counsel will work alongside a group of multi-disciplinary professionals to deliver and strengthen risk management across this leading Children’s Charity’s portfolio, providing support on complex grant agreements and contracts and advising on a range of other legal issues as we ensure their funded programmes overseas deliver their intended impact
You will play a key role in the continuous improvement of operational effectiveness and efficiency and provide coaching and training as appropriate across the group.
Some of your responsibilities will include;
* Contribute to the development and updating of the charities overseas
* Ensure International policies, procedures, and practice comply with UK regulatory requirements.
* Provide input as required into overseas assurance work.
* Advise the Policy and Programmes leadership and management teams on legal risk
* Draft, review and help negotiate grant agreements and contracts with donors, partners and suppliers
* Apply judgement and initiative in the design, simplification and implementation of programme related policies, processes, templates and guidance
* Identify knowledge, skill and capability gaps within the Charity and identify, develop and deliver training when necessary
* Act as a first point of escalation/contact on high risk or complex matters within P&P, escalating to the Director or Head of Legal as appropriate.
* Provide Heads and Director with legal advice to inform decision-
* Undertake other duties or projects across WVUK commensurate with the nature and grade of the post as required.
The successful candidate will need
* An interest in the charity sector
* Experience of leading commercial negotiations with suppliers/contractors, customers/donors and other third parties
* Knowledge of OR at a minimum a willingness to learn about data protection law with a view to supporting staff with data protection queries
* Strong stakeholder management skills with an ability to work towards being recognised as a trusted business advisor
* Experience in the international development or Charity Sector would be advantageous
