Our market-leading client is looking to secure the services of a hands-on Systems / Linux Administrator to join their team based in Milton Keynes on a permanent basis.
The Systems / Linux Administrator role sits as a key member of the technical team to develop and maintain the network monitoring systems
Key responsibilities of a Systems / Linux Administrator will include:
* Manage and expand the client's Splunk Cloud based monitoring platform to ensure that all network nodes are monitored (potentially millions of nodes), and alerts are delivered in a timely manner to relevant teams.
* Liaise with the network engineering teams to determine their monitoring requirements and identify further opportunities for automation of monitoring and alerting as the network continues to grow.
* Report network operational status by creating apps, dashboards and integrations in Splunk to display relevant information to different teams.
* Automation of network monitoring agents and collectors via scripting to ensure standardisation of our network monitoring.
* Develop solutions that are reusable and can be broadly applied to monitor various vendors’ network hardware.
Skills & experience of a Systems / Linux Administrator:
* Strong understanding of foundational network concepts such as the OSI Model, TCP/IP, Routing, IPSEC, NAT and SNMP protocols.
* Previous experience of administering Splunk is essential
* In depth understanding of MIBs, OIDs and the translation and applying them to different use cases.
* Scripting knowledge in at least one language e.g. Perl/Python/Ruby/Shell.
* Some prior experience in system administration of both Windows and Linux platforms.
* A Software Development, Network Engineering or System Administration background with a focus on scripting and automation.
