Viking have an exciting opportunity for a Support Engineer to join the growing team in our UK office in Milton Keynes (hybrid working from home/office). The role is a full-time, permanent position offering an excellent salary and benefits package.

As our Support Engineer, you will be an active member in a team that is responsible for the designing, implementing, maintaining and optimising of systems and infrastructure in the designated field of technology, with a strong focus on DevOps and Cloud. You will deploy new systems and services following DevOps principles in a fast-growing Cloud environment. An example of technologies in scope includes: Terraform, Azure (DevOps) and Microsoft AD.
Additionally, there is a continuous process to simplify the management of our systems using automation and configuration management tools like: Ansible, Chef and Kubernetes.
What you will be doing as our Support Engineer:
Being a bridge between Architecture Team, the IT business partner(s) and the IT Operations function as Subject Matter Expert
Defining technical designs for systems and infrastructure elements, in order to ensure an optimal translation of functional needs and technological possibilities
Executing the incident and problem management process, compliant with agreed service levels, with the purpose to adequately solve technical incidents and problems
Executing the change management process, in line with change requirements and specific procedures, in order to fulfil change requests in an efficient and effective manner
Scheduling the implementation of new and changed elements as well as maintaining and ensuring the implementation and configuration of systems and/or infrastructure elements
Reviewing the existing infrastructure providing automation improvement where possible
Contributing to the formulation of monitoring of and reporting on service levels within the area of attention and initiating and proposing improvements
Participating in the development of IT-related projects initiated by clients or system necessity
Engaging with third parties and/or service providers to provide seamless customer experience
Understanding, owning and using IT processes to deliver value-adding IT services to Viking
Initiating Operational projects and programs, defining scope and activities, leading decision making and managing uncertainties and expectations of a varied group of stakeholders
What we’re looking for in our Support Engineer:
More than 4 years of relevant experience in the IT engineering profession
Azure Cloud Certified would be a pre as well as experience using Azure DevOps
In-depth knowledge of Linux systems and automation tools like Terraform, Ansible and Chef
Experience with scripting languages like: PowerShell, Perl, Batch files
Very good understanding of large enterprise IT architectures, networks, firewalls and the complex relationship between them in combination with cloud-based services
Good knowledge of at least one distributed source control system (e.g. Git, SVN)
In-depth knowledge of technical infrastructures. Working knowledge of Databases and other common systems
Substantial knowledge of appropriate engineering tools/processes
Capable to work under pressure showing a flexible working style with an overall commitment to quality client service
Integrity and honesty, discretion and the ability to maintain confidentiality of information
Good knowledge of ITIL processes and Service Level Management
Fluent knowledge of English, spoken and written. Other language skills (Dutch, German, Spanish, French and/or Italian) would be a distinct advantage
