The role is within a business that was a fast-paced start-up, now heading into year 3, where strategy is high scale growth. So, it will require an engaged hands-on approach, with a readiness to engage in activities outside of the formal job role. The successful candidate should be passionate, energetic and excited by the prospect of owning a team and developing the Testing practice within the business.
The Role:
The QA Lead will lead the testing practice within the business and will need to understand the demands of working in a start-up environment that uses agile practices. You will work closely with the rest of the engineering team, mentoring them to ensure quality is at the forefront of every feature, project and code change.
You will be expected to collaborate with your peers in Lead positions, maturing the quality culture & testing practices across the business. As a QA Lead, you will be expected to weigh in on tactical & strategic testing challenges, as well as provide guidance and coaching across three agile delivery teams.
Part of the role will be hands-on: performing exploratory testing and leveraging your understanding of automation, either by implementing tools yourself or by collaborating with your engineering colleagues. Whichever approach you use, the goal is to remove and/or prevent testing bottlenecks and find important problems as quickly as possible.
Main Responsibilities:
*
Own the quality culture within our client’s business.
*
Set the quality strategy across the engineering team, plan and implement practices to achieve that strategy
*
Assess the existing feature set, define the risk profile and required testing activities to ensure quality levels are up to scratch
*
Work with the rest of the engineering team to produce a roadmap to achieve adequate test coverage in relation to the overall risk profile
*
Participate in product sessions to ensure risk profiles are completed for new features and appropriate testing activities are planned and executed
*
Implement measures to increase visibility of quality and testing activities to the wider business
*
Participate in agile ceremonies and coach the engineering team in improving agile ways of working
Required Skills and Experience:
*
Experience working in a start-up environment is very important. Processes that already exist at a longer-lived company will need to be created and sculpted with your input & guidance!
*
Experience leading, coaching and mentoring a test team, helping them to grow by improving their hands-on testing skills, as well as their communication skills.
*
Experience representing quality concerns in cross-functional agile teams is vital. You should be able to describe how quality is impacted by how well agile ceremonies are performed, as well as spot opportunities to introduce a “shift-left” approach to testing.
*
Experience creating or updating quality strategies and turning those into realistic plans that are rolled out across delivery teams.
*
The ability to understand technical concepts and communicate those to different audiences, from less technical folks in Customer Success to more technical folks like developers & engineers.
*
Bonus points: hands on experience implementing automated tests for web and/or mobile applications
This is a fast-paced company with lots going on, presenting a challenging agenda for the future. It is also an incredibly rewarding company in which to work and this role presents an opportunity to make a difference to the organisation and move it forward significantly
