Application Support Analyst – Milton Keynes
This role will provide operational and technical support to the users of business applications to ensure that the business benefits of applications continue to be achieved throughout their lifetime. To provide system support including monitoring of batch processes, responding to system alerts in a timely manner, administration of the underlying systems (checking disk space, performance, looking for errors in event logs, etc), updating configuration and data in systems and helping to diagnose application issues. To liaise with third parties when issues arise, helping to coordinate our response when issues occur.
Main Responsibilities
* Provide technical assistance to the business where required
* Provide 2nd-line application support where required; work with customers to understand and, if necessary, replicate issues
* Work with 3rd-line support engineers and/or 3rd-party companies to identify root-causes and propose software fixes
* Own application incidents from receipt through to completion and close-down
* Monitor application logs, server logs, etc for faults or potential faults
* Report on application support progress and performance
* Receive new software releases from other members of the team, record their deployment and help communicate changes to the wider IT department
* Test software changes made by other members of the team
* Maintain communication with colleagues, especially the Software Development Manager, with respect to all support activities
* Configure test and live environments when changes are requested
* Update standing data in test and live systems
The Ideal Candidate
* Very well-organised; on top of all tasks, communications, etc
* Excellent communication skills; able to communicate clearly both in writing and verbally; able to communicate in non-technical terms to business colleagues
* Good note-taking and documentation skills; able to record information and retrieve it quickly at a later date
* Close attention to detail
* Tenacious
* Good analytical and problem-solving skills
* Appreciation of the full software development life-cycle
* Familiar with coding and debugging skills and with SQL Server databases (does not need deep skills in these areas and on-the-job training will be provided)
* Ability to pick up new technologies quickly
* Able to work alone and alongside others as part of a team
* Able to work under pressure and willing to be flexible on working hours when occasionally required
* Comfortable working to departmental standards and following good application support practice
* Familiarity with Service-Now or JIRA would be an advantage
