SUMMARY
The client are a specialists in refurbishment, upgrade and modification company within the rolling stock industry that have been operating from the Wolverton Depot for over 30 years. They are currently making huge innovations in the hybridisation of rolling stock in the UK and have already achieved marked success by re-tractioning of the class 455, 321 & 442.
They also offer vehicle interior maintenance and can offer a full turnkey solution for any refurbishment project in the rail industry, making them a cornerstone of the UK rolling stock market and a key contact provider for the sector.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
As a Welder/Fabricator, you will be part of a small team using your skills to perform modification, upgrade and refurbishment work on rolling stock based at the Wolverton Depot, near to Milton Keynes. As well as welding, you must also be willing to get stuck in with other depot functions such as painting and general housekeeping.
Typical activities include:
*Working with managers to implement the company's policies and goals.
*MIG welding of Rolling Stock; Steel and Aluminium welding for upgrade and maintenance.
*Responsible for the quality control of their work. Operate within standard operating procedures (SOPs).
*Communicate with other operators and supervisors.
*Clean and maintain work area.
*General housekeeping and continual improvement activities.
*Turn off and lock out equipment when not in use.
*Liaising with the Production Manager to maintain department production, quality and ISO9001 standards.
*Reporting any potential employee welfare problems to the Production Manager.
*Other Duties as assigned.
Much of the work requires the ability to make immediate decisions and time for reflection is can be scarce. Although advice may be available from the colleagues, team leaders and supervisors or other departments, it may not be immediately available at critical moments therefore you have to be able to make things work, there and then.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS
*MIG welding experience with steel and aluminium.
*NVQ level 3 or equivalent in a relevant field.
*Be able to read and understand engineering diagrams
*Industries considered: Rolling Stock, Marine, Ex-Forces or similar.
*Must have own overalls, weld mask and safety boots/shoes
*Generally as per job specification.
