Project Controller – Milton Keynes – (Rail/heavy civils/earthworks/drainage)
J.Murphy & Sons are looking for a Project Controller to join team at Milton Keynes to action the implementation, adoption and use of project controls tools and information within your project. You will provide actionable insight on the performance of the project to highlight and ensure dependable project management and assuring project/projects performance targets are achieved. The Project Controller will act as a "critical friend" – objective, independent and challenging.

The Role
* Ensure business project controls & reporting procedures and processes are implemented across their project/projects
* To facilitate the development of local project controls & reporting procedures and processes to suit the requirements of their project/projects.
* Ensure that the adopted processes & procedures are operating effectively and enable the efficient, holistic and rigorous analysis of project and portfolio performance.
* To champion and drive the adoption of project controls & reporting requirements within their portfolio.
* Manage the collection, extraction and validation of source data for the purposes of analysis.
* Lead the critical analysis of information and metrics to identify performance, areas of actual and potential concern.
* Provide early identification and warning of areas of potential risk & issue so that they can be mitigated in a proactive manner.
* To provide objective, transparent, timely and evidence based insight on performance at a portfolio and project level.
* To collate performance information and insight in compelling, effective and intuitive communication formats to meet the requirement of stakeholders (project, portfolio, business and group levels).
* Validate that data used for analysis is of a suitable quality and accuracy.
* Provide support and coaching to peers, helping to enabling them to adopt and utilise project controls information and collateral.
* Act as a subject matter expert providing input and opinion to peers and leaders on matters relating to performance, project controls and reporting.
* Lead the collation of information and packs associated with the project & business reporting cycle.
* Support the effective control and management of projects through the provision and analysis of performance information.
* Ensure that there is accurate and transparent reporting of performance, risk and issues.
* Ensure that there are measures in place to feedback actual outputs and productivity information to the work winning / estimating teams.
* Support the proactive identification, management and mitigation of project, portfolio and business unit risks.
* Develop and maintain effective communication and collaborative relationships with stakeholders.
* Manage and resolve any actual or potential conflicts with stakeholders
* Represent the Murphy business to our Clients and external stakeholders, embodying our vision, values and purpose.
* Develop and maintain effecting communication, collaborative relationships and coordination with other parts of the business (internal suppliers etc.)
Your profile
* Experience working in the Construction sector for a Contractor is preferred but not mandatory.
* Experience of developing dashboards and performance metrics.
* Experience of the rolling up performance information from a granular (project) to portfolio / business level.
* Competency of working with data to analyse performance.
* Ability to communicate "data" in effective and meaningful formats.
* Understanding of project accounting and construction contracts.
* Advanced user of MS Excel, and competent in BI packages such as PowerBI / Qlik / Tableau.
* Competent user of finance ERP systems.
* Ideally has 2-3 years' experience in a function such as Planning, Project Controls, Commercial, Finance or Operations
