The client is an established rental house, supplying specialist film equipment to film and TV production companies worldwide. We also offer managed storage, maintenance, and technical support services to film crew working in the film and television industry. We are a young company, but our commitment to innovation, technical excellence and customer service has quickly established us as the leading specialist in our field. We service many leading feature film franchises, high-end TV productions and TV commercials in the UK, Europe and across the world.
We seek an Operations Manager who will play a vital part in the running of the business. This is a senior level role and involves managing and co-ordinating the day-to-day activities of our entire business while maintaining and improving performance, productivity and efficiency.
Reporting to the Directors, the successful candidate will contribute to the overall development and implementation of organisational strategies, policies and practices that ensure the business operates smoothly. They will lead on human resources, motivating and creating a working environment that fosters high levels of teamwork and exceptional customer service, highlighting the company’s commitment to technical excellence. They will care for employee welfare, identify training needs and ensure team members have a development journey within the company, whilst also guaranteeing that health & safety regulations are adhered to.
This role requires someone confident and agile, with the ability to think on their feet and make informed decisions without hesitation. They will need to act quickly to changing priorities, workload and new priorities or requirements. As a process-driven ‘people’ person, they will bring operational expertise with proven experience of operations management. Improving ways of working will be key to their success, as will their demonstratable leadership, communication, and problem-solving experience, coupled with a strong, empathetic understanding of teambuilding.
Key Responsibilities:
• Work closely with the Company Directors to actively pursue and deliver strategic and operational objectives
• Develop and document easy-access operational policies for all day-to-day processes; ensure day-to-day business operations are run in a smooth and efficient manner
• Evaluate and implement policies for goods in/goods out and inventory; manage the stock control systems to ensure equipment is located, stored and transferred correctly
• Review financial statements, sales and activity reports, as well as other KPI data to measure productivity and results; identify areas for improvement and cost reduction
• Review customer feedback and customer-related statistics
• Along with other management, perform HR duties such as determining staffing requirements; candidate selection (working closely with our recruiter); contracts; scheduling; training; mentoring; counselling; and disciplining employees
• Manage staff, prepare work schedules and assign specific duties to personnel
• Help the company to promote and maintain high morale in a challenging fast-paced environment, fostering a fully inclusive team spirit
• Ensure all relevant health and safety regulations are implemented and followed; ensure compliance with laws and regulations
Qualifications and Requirements
• A minimum of 3 years previous experience in operations management or a similar role
• Strong logic and problem-solving skills
• Ability to quickly weigh up the strengths and weaknesses of different solutions
• Excellent IT skills, with the ability to use all MS Office software and learn new software as required, ideally also familiar with Mac
• A strong listener with the ability to monitor and assess the performance of other individuals
• Experience in the events, film & television industries is beneficial but not essential.
Working Conditions
• 42.5 hours average per week within our main hours of business – 8am to 6pm – with the flexibility to work outside of these hours if required
• Monday to Friday – very occasional weekend hours may sometimes be required
• Holiday – 25 days per year plus UK bank holidays
