Office based – at our newly refurbished office in Bedfordshire
KAP Technical are working with an award-winning design and manufacturing business based near Bedford which has a rich history in the packaging sector .
Due to continued growth, they are looking to recruit a Mechanical Design Engineer.
The role
The successful candidate will be able to design precision engineered complex bespoke
assemblies of an electromechanical nature whilst being able to manage all facets of the project
life as part of a Project team.
The ideal candidate will have a proven design background with
bespoke capital equipment experience with strong 3D design experience and good commercial
acumen. They should be a confident, self-motivated mechanical engineer who is eager to take
responsibility for the project lifecycle within an established forward thinking engineering team and
company-wide project teams.
Key Responsibilities:
3D design work on a project-by-project basis for both standard and custom machines
Carrying out and completing design changes following the internal process as and
when required
Presenting designs at design review stage
Assisting with testing of equipment as required
Working on design solutions for the sales team
conducting feasibility studies for new concepts
Working on new design concepts to increase equipment capabilities or to reduce
machine costs.
Compiling and amending Bill of materials in both modelling and MRP / ERP systems
Working as part of a project team maintaining responsibilities throughout the Project life
Ensuring all project documentation is complete and available for other departments as
required
Ability to manage design projects against target hours/schedule
3D&2D CAD design
Strong 3D CAD experience using an industry standard platform (in-house system
currently Creo Elements Direct Modelling/Drafting)
Complex assemblies and Sub-assemblies
Strong experience with tolerances and fits
Experience with a multitude of different design areas – press tools, pneumatics,
fabrications, machined components, rotating elements, sensors, actuators, conveyors,
drive mechanisms, gears
Cable management, routing, and consideration for electrical components
Experience with ferrous and non-ferrous materials
Blank sheet design ability must be demonstrated
Use of MRP / ERP systems and CAD data management + MS office products (Epicor
beneficial, but not required)
Experience of design change processes
DFMA and value engineering
