Sarah got promoted. Could you?
Sarah used to work in the Dev team but she's just been promoted. Her story is proof that most vacancies here are filled from within – which means this could not only be your next job, but the one after that as well.
You probably want to know what's involved.
If you've been involved in the Dev arena for a couple of years elsewhere, you know what it takes. Deploy, automate, maintain & manage both on-premise and cloud based product environments to make sure these environments are available, scalable & secure.
You'll work 1 or 2 days per week in Milton Keynes and the rest of your role from anywhere you want! Obviously you'll need to be able to visit the office on those days but that's not a problem as there is ample car parking and a train station nearby.
You'll sit within a team of other Engineers varying in experience, all doing what they do best. This means there are plenty of people nearby that you can ask for help if you need it.
Here's a taste of some of the things you'll get up to:
Working closely with the Dev/QA/Release teams to achieve those delivery targets.
You'll build, release and manage various configurations.
Some system troubleshooting and problem solving.
Come up with some suggestions surrounding architecture and processes as well as performance improvement opportunities.
Develop detailed designs whilst working closely with the customer.
Now, in the words of Liam Neeson, you'll need to possess a particular set of skills. Skills you will have acquired over a very long (or short) career… These include:
Firstly and most importantly, an understanding of DevOps practices.
Experience automating build, test, package, release and config management.
JIRA, Bitbucket/Git, Team City, Maven, Nexus and Sonar for all things automation.
Chef or Ansible for automating configuration management.
Scripting experience using either Python, Powershell, Korn or Bash.
AWS & Docker.
Linux / UNIX and/or Windows administration.
If you care about such things, you might like to know that the business are global, which explains why there are plenty of opportunities to move on.
