Senior Health and Safety Manager required to join a well established UK manufacturing Company. You will ideally be able to assess current HSE policies and recommend, plan and initiate new policies throughout the companies manufacturing facilities. There will be particular emphasis on environmental considerations.
Our Client is a leading Tier 2 supplier to the Automotive sector supplying a range of specialist components to leading OEMs and Tier 1 suppliers within the Automotive industry as well as other sectors including Aerospace and other specialist sectors. Components are manufactured on site and include sheet metal stampings and die castings.
Principle Duties:
Responsible person for fire, legionella and ionising radiation.
Act as security officer for the Group.
Ensure all external contractors work to safe procedures and are supervised whilst on site. Ensure that in all cases, method statements and risk assessments are provided and agreed prior to work commencing.
Maintain all yard areas, organisation, housekeeping and removals.
Arrange two yearly audits and monitoring of stack emissions by an approved supplier.
Assist with external audits and help resolve non conformities/opportunities for improvement.
Manage hazardous substances and the disposal of chemicals, e.g. asbestos/COSHH, ensuring that the internal safety data sheet database is current.
Ensure the safe installation of equipment.
Ensure adequate numbers of fire marshals and first aiders are on site and that notices are current.
Carry out weekly fire alarm testing and 6 monthly fire drills with overall responsibility of the fire alarm system including service and repair.
Advise on a range of specialist areas, e.g. fire regulations, hazardous substances, noise, safeguarding machinery and occupational diseases.
Produce monthly KPI report and present at the monthly management meetings.
Ensure that all new process, products, equipment and substances are in accordance with relevant policies and legislation.
Lead in-house training with managers and employees about Health, Safety, Environmental issues and risks as well as arranging external HSE training (Banksmen, FLT, Press Guard Certs, etc.).
Investigate incidents/accidents; maintain records and produce statistics for managers with recommendations for improvement to prevent reoccurrence.
Maintain records of audit findings and produce reports recommending improvements.
Update current and introduce new HSE procedures in line with current management system requirements.
Carry out HSE inductions for new employees.
Carry out regular HSE audits to check policies and procedures are being properly adhered to.
Ensuring knowledge is up to date according to new legislation and best practice.
Liaise with all the regulatory authorities (HSE, Environmental Agency, Local Authority, Fire Service) to ensure the Group is compliant with mandatory regulations and lead any inspections by the above authorities.
Making changes/improvements to working practices that are safe and comply with legislation.
Ensuring that managers and operators try to eliminate conflict between productions and safety and environmental considerations.
Plan practical and effective solutions towards safe working practices.
Conduct risk assessments and advise on risk reduction including improvements to PPE.
Outlining safe operational procedures, which identify all relevant hazards and accurately assess risks.
Preparing Health, Safety and Environmental strategies; develop and implementing appropriate policy and ensuring adherence.
Skills and Competences:
* Ability to work under pressure and deliver to tight deadlines in a fast paced environment.
* Ability to negotiate with managers to ensure plans are communicated and implemented effectively.
* Demonstrate effective communication skills at all levels both internally and externally.
* Ability to plan and prioritize workload in order to meet required deadlines and performance standards. Demonstrate planning ability of a high level to achieve long and medium term business objectives.
* A high level of analyses and problem solving ability to ensure health, safety and environmental issues are managed in a pro-active and effective manner.
* Ability to lead, influence and change the people and processes to demonstrate continuous improvement.
* Must be able to demonstrate the capabilities to manage two sites and maintain the integrity of the current H&S systems whilst looking at opportunities to develop and expand the systems whilst integrating all employees into ambassadors for H&S.
* Health, Safety and Environmental awareness demonstrating the ability to identify effective strategies for effective management of area of responsibility.
Requirements:
* Member of IOSH/IIRSM.
* Minimum 3 years’ experience in a manufacturing/heavy engineering environment (Essential).
* Level 5/6 diploma (or working towards) in H&S (Desirable).
* Minimum Level 3 qualification in a recognisable Health, Safety and Environmental subject (Essential).
