Highway Inspector
To undertake Safety and Service Inspections and gather Asset Management information on the highway network.
This is an important role within the contract, and it is imperative that the post holder understands the requirements of the role and the repercussions if safety inspections are not undertaken and documented accurately.
Safety Inspections must be undertaken in accordance with the Inspection Policy, details must be recorded accurately, and the programme of inspections must be strictly adhered to. The role requires the ability to collect and record data on site using IT hardware and software and manually as necessary.
The majority of this role will be spent undertaking audits either on foot or via a vehicle in all weather conditions.
The Role Duties and Responsibilities:
– Perform and accurately report Safety Inspections and Service Inspections across the road network as set out in the Inspection Schedule;
Perform walked and driven highway inspections working alone and alongside others;
– Overseeing an Assistant Highway Inspector as necessary;
– Ensure inspection processes and procedures are being followed as set for the service and in accordance with legal requirements;
– Promote a safe working environment at all times for yourself and others;
– Report any issues not covered by the inspection regime for the general betterment of the network;
– Managing and updating databases and other digitised data for the area, ensuring data collected is accurate and error free;
– Provide support and evidence for insurance claim defence;
– Prepare, attend and if necessary, give evidence at court;
– Identify opportunities to reduce clutter on the network for prioritisation with the client;
– Liaise with Local Area Technicians and others working within area to share intelligence and improve the condition of the network;
– Delivery of elements of the maintenance contract as defined by the Asset Manager;
– Promote a safe working environment;
– Ensure all related service performance indicators and contractual requirements are met;
– To carry out other duties consistent with the above that may be directed or implied from time to time as required commensurate to the post and/or instructed by the line manager;
– Delivery of business plan objectives;
– To participate in a Performance and Development Review.
What you will need to succeed:
– Possess a full UK driving licence
– Ability to attain the necessary certification required to perform the role including but not exclusive to 'Highway Safety Inspection Training and Assessment Programme' City and Guilds 6033
– Ability to collect accurate asset and defect information
– Possess competent IT skills including the ability to adapt to various software and hardware
– Ability to manage time and workloads to a strict inspection schedule and complete tasks in a timely manner
– Possess a personal fitness level to be able to spend the majority of the role outdoors walking the network in all weather conditions
– Ability to continually develop professional knowledge, skills and behaviours – Ability to communicate effectively within all mediums
– Ability to coordinate and collaborate with other team members
– Familiar with the requirements of working safely within a highway environment
– The ideal candidate will have experience of working in highway maintenance and/or with an asset management system
