Our client is looking for a Senior Geotechnical Engineer/ Engineering Geologist with 5 years’ experience to join their team and take control of the site engineers, work with the Operations Manager to get the logs and reports out to clients/ arrange the lab testing and help to develop that side of the business.
Ideally, they are after a contractor more than a consultant. The right person must enjoy a challenge, be a problem solver, enjoy a small company atmosphere.
The right candidate should enjoy site work and developing graduate and junior engineers, have an eye for detail and be more focused on the engineering/ technical side rather than the commercial side. They will be responsible for the engineering dept and we expect them to want to learn and develop themselves, progression would be monetary and job title with a varied role. They will be based from their Milton Keynes office and expected to work from there most of the time with some site work when required. They work nationwide.
Specific Responsibilities:
Member of the Management Committee and represent company management on site.
Member of the Safety Committee, responsibilities outlined in the HSEQ Manual.
Deputises for the MD’s operational responsibilities.
To attend client meetings as and when required.
Management of site resources and engineers.
Project Management to achieve time/quality/legislative compliance.
Design and implementation of site investigations.
Examination of geological maps and logging of soils on‐ and off‐site.
Production and checking of factual reports to BS5930 and Eurocode7.
To give safety briefings and Toolbox Talks, as required.
Training of drillers on soil descriptions and logging.
To co‐ordinate resources to meet planned work activities.
To give feedback at appropriate site/management meetings.
To mentor other engineers.
To comply with the Company's HSEQ policies and responsibilities, as outlined in the HSEQ Manual.
To wear and maintain the appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to required standard.
To attend medical screenings and D&A tests as required.
Maintenance of vehicle, plant and equipment, reporting breakages and consumables.
To complete and return all relevant paperwork in a timely manner.
To attend briefings and training, as required.
Any other duties related to meet the demands of the business.
Minimum Requirements:
Degree in geology or civils‐related subject with significant, relevant experience.
• Significant experience in supervising drilling rigs is essential.
• CSCS and full UK driving licence essential.
• Proficiency in MS Office (Pro), Holebase/AGS essential.
• Must have good administrative and communication skills.
• Must be organised, conscientious, highly motivated with good management skills.
• Must have commercial awareness.
Proficiency in Autosketch and/or other drawing packages desirable.
MSc in geology or civils‐related subject advantageous.
Significant rail experience beneficial.
