Background
East West Rail (EWR) is a major infrastructure project that proposes to improve rail transport links between Oxford and Cambridge. The project is split into three ‘Connection Stages’ (1, 2 and 3).
Connection Stage 1 – Oxford to Milton Keynes
Connection Stage 2 – Bletchley to Bedford
Connection Stage 3 – Bedford to CambridgeNR have already delivered the part of Connection Stage 1 (CS1) from Oxford to Bicester and are currently in contract with the EWR Alliance to deliver further CS1 works between Bicester to Bletchley and up to Milton Keynes. CS1 will deliver a 2 trains per hour service between Oxford, Bletchley and Milton Keynes. This is being delivered along an abandoned section of railway.
The future CS2 and CS3 are in a more conceptual stage and NR’s involvement in these stages are to be confirmed.
Engineering Requirements
Providing support to NR for EWR works outside of the EWR Alliance contracted scope and CS1 system integration.
Will require multi-disciplinary capability to a NR Designated Project Engineering level. NR’s involvement in the works sitting outside of the contracted EWR Alliance and CS1 system integration scope is still to be confirmed and therefore the requirement for engineering services to support NR in the Part Two services is currently unknown. Therefore, there will be options based upon the schedules submitted for disciplines (Track, Signalling, Civils, M&E, Telecomms, OLE, Buildings, E&P, Ergonomics and Systems) that may be instructed dependent on business need as part of this managed service, and as the projects that are in scope are confirmed
