Let me set the scene, you’re a highly skilled and competent machinist, but your job is getting mundane and it’s becoming more and more de-skilled. The kick and enjoyment you used to get by problem solving has long gone and that sense of pride of making something that you’ve engineered has diminished. Well, this could be the role that re-lights your passion and reminds you of why you're a machinist.

The company

They are a small yet established sub con who have recently moved into a newly specially fitted out workshop. You can expect their workshop to be immaculate with 5 axis DMG and Matsuura machines which are used to supply into the F1, Aerospace, pharma and Automotive industries. They run an open door policy and you can expect team meetings where suggestions are able to be made.

The Job

This is going to be part of a small team so this is a position of responsibility, not in terms of management, but one where you will make engineering decisions so you must feel comfortable in that environment. There will of be programmers on site who will producing programs for you, but once up to speed they would like to invest in you and put you through a CAM course so you can programs your own jobs. On a daily basis you can expect to be cutting a variety of jobs, working with aerospace grade materials including Titanium, Inconel, Aluminium and Steel.

Experience

As this is a part of a small team, this position will need someone who is highly skilled and comfortable at making engineering decisions. These engineering decisions could be about the tooling, jigs or even the vice used. They have 5 axis machines with a mix of Heidenhain and Fanuc controls so experience with either of these coupled with 5 axis experience is a must for this position, also as they supply into the Motorsport industry there will be plenty of overtime if desired.
