Element has an opportunity for a Timber Consultant to join the BM TRADA team, based in the South East of England but with a national focus. The role would suit an applicant with a qualification in a building or construction related discipline or proven skills and experience.
This is a great opportunity to work with one of the leading timber consultancies in the UK. You will be working within a highly respected team where a variety of work is on offer. No two days are the same with projects ranging from heritage buildings, timber bridges and viaducts, to trouble shooting defects in newly installed products.
Some of the key responsibilites will include, but not limited to;
* To undertake timber investigations, laboratory work, site inspection work and report on results
* Gather relevant site based evidence from investigative work, from documentation and background information provided by others
* Offering technical advice and responding to enquiries, by phone and in person
* Building and maintaining relationships with project engineers and architects
* Assist the marketing and publications department with input for technical information documents
* Deliver a range of timber related training courses for individuals
* Assess quality standards and advise on improvements
* Ensuring that equipment (laboratory or tools) is maintained to ensure safety and quality is not compromised
* Ensuring that tests are conducted in accordance with the requirements of the appropriate test standard and approved procedures
* Follow the relevant procedures where activities are controlled by the Quality Management System
SKILLS
* Demonstrable experience in practical / technical subjects relating to the timber industry or construction (eg Sustainablity, Building Surveying, Heritage, Infrastructure)
* Preference for a degree qualified individual or qualification in a relevant discipline
* This job would possibly suit a Wood Scientist, Timber Enthusiast, Building Surveyor, Structural Engineer, Project Manager, Designers
* Comfortable with working at heights
* Demonstrates good understanding of BS and EU standards
* Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite – Excel, Word, PowerPoint
* Ability to explain technical terms / issues / concepts clearly
* Ability to work under pressure and experience of meeting deadlines
* An eye for detail and be able to communicate thoughts and ideas.
* Excellent time management skills, and be able to manage your own diary
* Current and Valid Driving Licence
