PSR Solutions are currently recruiting for a Subcontract Buyer to work with one of our Clients in Milton Keynes. Our Client is a Nationally renowned Main Contractor, who complete work mainly in the Industrial and Leisure sectors, completing project up to £100m.
The role has come around due to a large increase in work. Key to this role is early engagement on tenders, to get early engagement and buy in from subcontractors, get prices agreed prior to award and save duplication by commercial team when the project goes live. The Buyers will work with the Preconstruction team and in particular closely with the Estimators to formulate subcontract tender list and early negotiation. Request, manage and review quotes coming in. Core to this is getting key trades engaged and into contract early (Groundworks, Steel Work, Cladding, M&E etc.).
Duties:
To assist the Estimating function in the selection of Subcontractors for each trade. Selection to be based on Constructionline database approval, performance and H & S history, market knowledge, supplier preferences/recommendations, financial strength etc.
To develop and maintain a robust and effective Supply Chain for key trade packages within the Building business based on geographical and project requirements.
Dependent on size & nature of packages… have involvement with subcontract quotations, check and resolve qualifications, iron out where possible contingency items, attend/chair subcontractor interviews in conjunction with bid teams.
Check quotations for specification compliance. Explore value engineering opportunity with subcontractors and offer to design team for comment.
To negotiate key trade packages at Pre-Construction stage and appoint a preferred subcontractor allowing the commercial teams to formalise the agreement quickly.
Work with Pre-Construction, operational and commercial staff to devise a procurement strategy, goals and action plans relevant to the business and ensure that the site commercial staff are aware of these and work in accordance with.
Undertake financial checks on proposed subcontractors.
Ensure the utilisation of database approved subcontractors where possible.
Attend tender review meetings as and when possible.
Carry out B2B meetings with Preferred Subcontractors for key trades.
Liaise with Commercial Teams ensuring compliance in respect of the utilisation of vendor assessed and approved subcontractors.
Attend pre-let meetings for strategic packages where possible.
To monitor and report on Subcontractor performance in line with group requirements.
