SHES Manager – Milton Keynes – Rail/Heavy Civils
J. Murphy & Sons are recruiting for an experienced SHES Manager to manage the SHES function on a high profile heavy civils project in Milton Keynes, you will lead from the front with all aspects of Health & Safety on the project and have experience being client facing along with stakeholder management. The project is earthworks and drainage focussed and the ideal candidate will have worked on similar projects.

The Role
* Establish and provide project management in line with best practice in environmental and sustainability matters in conjunction with the SHES function.
* Advise and support Managers and Supervisors to discharge their responsibilities for the SHES of employees and others to whom they have a duty as defined by Legislation and Company Procedures.
* Manage the environmental sub-team, ensuring environmental management controls are in place so that all personnel are aware of their statutory duties and responsibilities, and to provide advice as and when required.
* Take a lead with site management teams to ensure compliance with all requirements stipulated in the SHES Plans.
* Manage & carry out regular inspections / audits of sites and work places to determine whether work is being carried out in accordance with Company Policy, Procedures and the relevant Statutory Provisions.
* Lead, partake and oversee environmental incident investigations in accordance with the Company procedure and, analysing all data, making recommendations to avoid any reoccurrences.
* Manage, collate & review environmental statistics in a timely manner and submit to the SHES function and relevant Clients for reporting purposes.
* Review environmental statistics to identify trends and areas for improvement.
* Develop and implement environmental campaigns and improvement plans in agreement with the Senior SHES Manager / SHES Director and operational management
* Manage and where required be involved in the preparation & review of environmental documents including those of 3rd parties.
* Manage & provide support to Project teams in the development of Plans (ESMP, SWMP, MMP etc)
* Manage and produce environmental plans, procedures and associated documentation and check compliance.
* Identify significant environmental issues for Operation Units / contracts / yards and help set-up contracts / yards to include appropriate controls.
* Manage and Identify any environmental consents / permits or exemptions that are required and ensure they are obtained.
* Maintain records as necessary to ensure compliance with Legislation, Company procedures and Contract Requirements.
* Provide reports, presentations and information as directed by the Business / SHES function.
* Support the Business / SHES function in the delivery of the Group Audit Programme.
* Undertake internal and external audits as required.
* Provide input and review of pre-qualification, tender and environmental award submissions.
* Stopping work with at any time SHES elements of the works are in question.
* Participate in working groups / forums as required.
* Manage the dissemination of information issued by the SHES function to relevant employees.
Your Profile
* 5 year experience as a SHES Manager in a construction environment
* Stakeholder and client interfacing experience, rail experience preferable.
* NEBOSH Qualified
* IOSH level 5-6 diploma.
* Auditing experience
