Senior Materials Technician

Laing O'Rourke has a requirement for a Senior Materials Technician to join our East West Rail project near Milton Keynes.
As one of the biggest rail projects outside of HS2, East West Rail will connect the 2 academic counties of Oxfordshire and Cambridgeshire. With a multitude of project stages, variety of work and challenges to find solutions for, it will test your skills and enhance your reputation.
The Senior Materials Technician will be responsible for leading the sampling and testing operations in their section of work in line with project requirements.
Activities include:
* Organising, overseeing & supervising of the sampling and testing operations
* Checking & preparation of laboratory results.
* Ensuring all specified procedures are followed.
* Liaising with the Senior Materials Engineer on resource and training matters.
* Training and direct supervision of junior staff.
* sampling, preparing and testing of construction materials in accordance with laboratory procedures
* Completing and checking of worksheets
* Ensuring samples are correctly identified, registered and stored.
* Ensuring all equipment used is maintained in good condition and calibrated where necessary
* Performing in-house calibrations as per calibration programme
* Undertaking testing & calibration audits (if suitably trained)
* Deputising for Senior Materials Engineer in periods of absence when Quality Manager is unavailable.
Skills and knowledge:
* Experience in site-based earthworks and concrete testing and have worked in a UKAS accredited laboratory.
* Able to communicate effectively.
* Able Work under pressure to achieve a deadline
* Basic Microsoft office skills
The role is working in a civil engineering, infrastructure sector. It is a self-delivery operation with most of the workforce employed by the joint venture partners. The section of the project is a large earthworks related scope for enabling construction of rail line. The position will suit someone who has a mixture of laboratory and site experience in an infrastructure project.
