Summary of Role
Our Client are high voltage electrical and civil engineers who are a NERS accredited Independent Connect Provider (ICP) and can provide Contestable Works up to 132 kV.
The Civils Project Manager will have a strong civils and project management background with the supporting qualifications and experience. The role itself will support the operations team in the delivery of construction projects and will report to the Senior Project Manager.
Main Responsibilities
To effectively manage and deliver a portfolio of construction projects from design handover to construction completion, including all associated commissioning works.
Review project on design handover and ensure project is ready for construction.
Ensure project delivery programme is prepared and maintained for each project, ensuring a logical and efficient approach is established, meeting the accepted timescales.
Determine labour & resource requirements and allocate projects to the project delivery team.
Ensure projects are delivered to exceed the client’s expectations, to agreed timescales and returning the expected profitability.
Project Specific Responsibilities
Communication: You will work closely with the Electrical Project Manager to deliver the project. You will also liaise, communicate effectively and timely with colleagues, clients, suppliers and sub-contractors as required.
Contractual & Legal: Familiarise yourself with the Contract between the client and our client and comply with the client’s requirements.
Sales/Estimates: Familiarise yourself with the sales estimate/proposal and how sets the project budget.
Budget Control: You will be responsible for budget management/cost control (in conjunction with the SPM) throughout the project and ensuring that the project is completed within budget.
Drawings & Specifications: Familiarise yourself and comply with the project drawings & specifications e.g. DNO G81.
Planning: Familiarise yourself with the client and LA planning conditions.
POW: Update and manage the POW, update as required ensuing all key personnel are informed of any changes.
Street Works: Raise Sect 50 in line NRSWA Act.
NJUG: Comply with NJUG guidelines.
Sub-Contractors/Suppliers: Familiarise yourself with and manage sub contractor/supplier processes and procedures, produce scope of works, liaise with Legal and Commercial as required, review T&Cs, and RAMS as required. Preparing and reviewing competitive tenders.
Purchase Orders: Familiarise and comply with the procurement process, raise and track Purchase Orders (POs), update the PO Analysis sheet as required.
Reporting: Compile project weekly reports and distribute as required. Compile monthly reports (if required) and submit to the Senior Project Manager for approval and distribution. Compile misc reports as instructed.
Invoicing: Ensure supplier/sub-contractor invoices match the scope of works/tender etc and then give financial approval as required and within your authorisation/delegation.
Stage Payments: Assess project work and request agreed stage payments.
VO Processes: Familiarise and comply with the clients Variation Order (VO) Processes, raise and cost Compensation Events (CEs), Early Warning Notices (EWNs) as required via the clients QS & SPM.
Supervision: Provide adequate supervision to all sub-contractors, site foreman, site managers as required.
HSEQ: Familiarise yourself with the CPP, F10 (If required) and suite of HSEQ documentation. In conjunction with the Site Manager and Civils Project Manager you are responsible for site safety and security. Assist and provide information to the HSEQ Mgr in the production of and providing technical detail in RAMS, audits etc.
Project Specific Responsibilities cont.
* As Builts: Gather information to assist our client in the production of ‘As builts’ to form the Health and Safety File.
* Competency. Maintain your competency by attending training courses, lectures, CPD etc approved or arranged by our client.
* Support to Site Manager: Provide support to the site manager in completing their role and provide cover if required.
* QA: Carry out suitable Quality Assurance (QA) – carry out pre work checks and sign off completed works checking it’s to specification and the drawings. Compile/collate test certificates, reports etc as required.
* Commissioning: Familiarise yourself with the commissioning processes and plan and assist in the production of commissioning plans ensuring client requirements are complied with.
* Meetings: Attend, organise and chair site progress meetings. Attend as required; design, procurement, client, DNO, IDNO meetings (and any other project related meetings) as requested.
* Audits: Organise, attend, complete and/or contribute to team, site, DNO, IDNO, HSEQ audits as required.
Experience
Essential
* 3 – 5 years working in in the civils/construction particularly: groundworks, drainage, reinforced concrete, structures, traditional building technology,
* An understanding of earthing, LV/HV cable laying and installing distribution systems up to 132kV.
* Management of teams on construction projects.
* 3 -5 years project management experience.
* Be able to interpret civil engineering drawings and specifications.
* Be able to interpret electrical drawings.
* Have knowledge of relevant and up to date, construction industry standards, processes and procedures
* Have a working knowledge of DNO G81, Sect 50, SAP and/or DNO authorisation’s (LV & HV)
* Have worked under standard construction contracts e.g. NEC
* Have a comprehensive knowledge of health, safety and environmental legislation and compliance on construction sites (including CDM, HSE specific guidance e.g. HSGs)
* Have a good working understanding of MS Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint,
* Have a good working understanding of MS Project
Qualifications
Desirable
Minimum of HNC in construction engineering or equivalent experience
HND or degree level education in construction engineering or equivalent
SMSTS
IOSH – Managing Safely qualification
NEBOSH or equivalent
APM, Prince 2 or equivalent
Emergency First Aid
