Principal Engineer/Project Manager
Highways
Buckinghamshire
Carrington West are currently representing a leading highways service provider who are now seeking a Principal Engineer/Project manager on a permanent basis in Buckinghamshire.
The Role:
Reporting to the Construction Team Leader and deputising when required, the role will manage the implementation of a portfolio of programmes of work, ensuring delivery in accordance with policies and strategic aims of the client.
The successful candidate will promote a high level of customer service and manage a team to ensure that their programmes of work are delivered according to agreed timescales, and the required quality and legislative requirements.
As Principal Engineer/Project Manager, you will oversee the construction of highway schemes to include but not be limited to:
·Public Realm improvements,
·Carriageway and footway repairs and reconstruction,
·Drainage,
·Vehicle restraint systems,
·Temporary works,
·Traffic management,
·Road markings and signs,
·Minor and major improvement works.
General Responsibilities:
·Reporting to the Construction Team Leader, you will be responsible for the delivery, either through supply chain or direct labour, of various construction projects for highways, drainage, flooding and a variety of other work streams
·You will be responsible for resolving technical issues as they occur for a range of areas across the project and for the monitoring of progress.
·You will be expected to attend progress meetings, and meet with stakeholders as appropriate during construction to understand and resolve issues arising.
·Required to be mobile and able to attend all site and depot locations within Buckinghamshire
·Line management of a team comprising of engineering staff
·Provide coaching and mentoring to junior members of staff
·Management and deployment of suitable resources to ensure deadlines are successfully met to the required standards.
·Deliver the programme of works within their group ensuring that it is delivered to budget, to programme and to the right quality.
·Ensure strong budgetary control and financial management is undertaken throughout areas of responsibility with robust evidence of efficiency and value for money being exhibited.
·Considering ways to make the business more efficient driving through continuous improvement each year and ensuring that the wider team has the correct resources
·Manage the production of Briefing Notes required
·Meeting agreed deadlines.
·To manage the Health and Safety, Environmental Management System, Quality Management System
·Support Equality & Diversity activities of the business
·Cultivates innovation by challenging the normal and removes barriers to creativity and innovation
·To carry out any other reasonable duties that may be directed or implied from time to time commensurate to the post and/or organisational requirements.
Experience:
·Degree in Civil Engineering or related subject
·Desirable – at least 10 years relevant experience
·IEng/CEng and MICE status or equivalent
·A suitable level of site and project management experience is required to direct complex projects and to provide technical support and mentoring of staff.
·Proven knowledge and experience in financial management and control of projects.
·Capable of managing a challenging workload subject to change at short notice.
·Ability to prioritise own work to support business priorities
·Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with key people both internally and externally including elected members, stakeholders and members of the public
·Confident with proven interpersonal and communication skills (including report writing and checking of written reports)
·Experience of staff management including performance management.
·Proven construction experience of most aspects of major highway schemes.
·Possess experience in undertaking scoping and pricing of work
·Understanding of the NEC contract
·Proven knowledge of Construction (Design & Management) Regulations.
·Extensive knowledge of design procedures, guidance and standards and good practice documents including the Design Manual for Roads and Bridges (DMRB), Specification for Highway (SHW), Manual for Streets (MfS), Traffic Signs Regulations and General Directions (TSRGD) and Traffic Regulation Orders (TROs).
·Good IT skills and conversant with Microsoft applications – Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint.
·CSCS, NRSWA and SMSTS card holder preferred.
·Driving Licence
Salary on offer is in the region of £45,000 – £48,000 per annum with a company car/car allowance depending on experience.
