Senior or Principal Mechanical Design Engineer (Building Services)

£50k to £65k dependent on experience

Consultancy / Principal Mechanical Design Engineer / Life Science / Building Services

This role is to join a talented, dynamic and diverse team of designers, engineers and technical specialists with a unique working culture. This team works on world-leading national schemes and is yet flexible enough to service niche markets allowing significant talent growth and career progression.

Projects include science parks, pharmaceutical, research labs, biotech, industrial and pharmaceutical, projects are always different and present their own challenges but are exciting and often at the forefront of science. Projects range in value from £60k to £200m.

Responsibilities

* You will work on a portfolio of projects both in the UK and Internationally.

* You will take ownership of project tasks requiring delivery within tight timescales and manage the internal delivery team.

* You will lead the development of initial strategic concepts for projects ensuring solutions are appropriate for the brief and regulatory standards.

* Take responsibility for design coordination with other disciplines and professionals.

* You will have the opportunity to lead mechanical services design on large projects, and take overall project lead on small to medium sized projects.

* Engage with less experienced engineers in their day to day activities and offer advice and guidance to ensure that they develop their skills and we get the best out of our people.

* You will be financially astute and work with the project leader to help monitor fee expenditure, resource and work delivered.

* Looking at new ways of working and taking time out for innovation and research

* Use the latest computer modelling software, designing in a Revit environment.

* Undertake site surveys.

* Define and agree brief with Client.

Experience Required

* An expected or achieved 2.1 or above IMechE or CIBSE accredited degree or equivalent qualification in Mechanical Engineering or similar.

* A masters or other relevant post graduate qualification is an advantage.

* Ideally Chartered engineer or working towards.

* A minimum of 4-5 Years experince.

* Excellent technical knowledge in Mechanical Design Engineering with thorough understanding of Building Services Engineering and interdisciplinary design through all stages of the design process.

* Previous consultancy experience

* Autonomous approach: able to lead small to medium sized projects and able to take a brief from the project lead on large projects and deliver & control the tasks required.

* Appreciation of client needs, with ability to face clients.

* Competently design within a digital environment, utilising Revit/CAD or similar modelling software.

* Understand and identify resource needs.

* Provide a lead role in an integrated project design team with other construction professionals
