Element has an opportunity for a Lead Laboratory Technician for our BM TRADA timber technical team based near High Wycombe. This is a great opportunity to develop your career within a Global Testing, Inspection & Certification business. You will be working within and leading the timber testing laboratory that is undergoing refurbishment and support the development of a new digital fingerprint testing service.
Responsibilities
You will be able to work independently and alone at times but still being part of a well-supported technical team. You will be tasked with the following;
* Carrying out conformity testing of building products especially screws, nails and other fasteners in accordance with criteria set out in relevant standards
* Producing test reports in accordance with our laboratory’s accreditation
* Reviewing and approving test reports for completed testing
* Direct liaison with customers on the requirements and progress of testing contracts
* Ensuring that Health and Safety procedures are followed, identifying and reporting hazards and conducting risk assessments where required
* Working with the Quality Manager to ensure that all equipment in use is calibrated and fit for purpose
* Following the relevant procedures where activities are controlled by the Quality Management System
* Working with the Wood Technology Technical Manager to effectively plan the workload and ensure that the section completes all testing within the agreed timeframe
* Support in the development of a new digital fingerprint testing service
* Being responsible for the organisation and cleanliness of the timber laboratory
Skills / Qualifications
Ideally you will have some of the following skills and / or experience
* Experience of working within a UKAS accredited test laboratory
* Knowledge and understanding of BS and EN testing standards
* Customer focused with a good telephone manner, confident and clear
* Able to lead and supervise staff
* Ability to work alone and in a group
* Common sense, hardworking and self-discipline, taking pride in all tasks carried out
* Good time management and organisational skills
* Computer literate with experience in MS Office products, in particular Excel, Word and Outlook, as well as bespoke systems
* A strong team player who takes pride in the job
* Knowledge of timber or timber related qualification
Our site is in a rural location between Hughenden Valley and Naphill which is most conveniently reached if you have your own transport.
