Optima Contracting Ltd are looking for an Environmental & Sustainability Coordinator with an interest in the construction industry to join their team in High Wycombe. You will join them on a full-time, permanent basis and in return, you will receive a competitive salary of £23,000 – £24,000 per annum, alongside the opportunity to work in a well-established and friendly company.
As our Environmental & Sustainability Coordinator, you will be responsible for supporting the environmental and sustainability function and activities across the Optima Group. The role will involve assisting the Environmental and Sustainability Manager in supporting our construction projects, undertaking business-level strategic activities and initiatives and helping to drive environmental performance improvements throughout the Optima Group.
This role would suit a graduate with perhaps some commercial work experience – good written, communication and teamwork skills are essential.
Key responsibilities of our Environmental & Sustainability Coordinator will include:
– Supporting tender responses and the delivery of project sustainability requirements (e.g. for BREEAM/LEED/SKA/WELL assessments) including gathering and reporting relevant information on products and environmental performance
– Supporting and contributing to the Group’s Net Zero Carbon Strategy and Action Plan to minimise operational energy use and greenhouse gas emissions across the Group
– Promoting environmental best practice and supporting environmental awareness campaigns to improve company performance
– Maintaining ongoing energy, water and waste data records and assist with data analysis, carbon footprint calculations and preparation of business performance reports
– Engaging with suppliers to maintain certification records and product environmental information
– Assisting with maintenance and continual improvement of the Group’s ISO14001 Environmental Management System, including undertaking actions to meet annual environmental objectives
– Assisting with maintaining business membership of industry bodies and certification programmes
– Assisting with internal and external environmental communications
– Helping to organise and promote internal Environmental & Sustainability training
– Supporting the Group’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme and help to develop and coordinate suitable activities
– Undertaking occasional topical research and present findings to the team
– Undertaking sustainability training and work towards professional membership
– Other duties to support members of the HSQE team as occasionally required
What we’re looking for in our Environmental & Sustainability Coordinator:
– Environmental or Sustainability degree (preferably with ‘built environment’ technical bias)
– Have a keen interest in sustainability in the built environment and a base understanding of the impacts of construction on the environment
– Numerate and analytical with good research, data analysis and report writing skills
– Ability to work well as part of a team
– Organised and able to manage and prioritise own workload and plan activities whilst meeting deadlines
– Capable of working on own initiative and interfacing with people at all levels within the business
– Strong IT skills and a willingness to learn
– Working towards professional membership of IEMA, CIEEM or other relevant environmental professional body
