About The Role
HS2 is entering the detailed design phase of the project and requires an additional team member to join the Environmental Design Management Team. You will be responsible for assisting the Environmental Design Manager in ensuring design are delivered on time and in collaboration with the wider design team, including engineering disciplines. The role will also require obtaining of appropriate consents and engagement with HS2 stakeholders. You will build and further cultivate relationships with stakeholders, including statutory bodies. During the construction of the project you will also be required to assist in the management of design changes required as the project matures. You will work in collaboration with the wider Environmental Team, client, designers, community, stakeholder and public relations managers to ensure the programme is achieved.
You will lead by example and promote good practice relating to environmental management & sustainability, sharing best practice and learning. About The Candidate
Key Accountabilities:• Management of key design elements and support the Construction Environmental Lead Manager.• Ensure that the requirements of the Environmental Minimum Requirements and the Environmental Statement are complied with and are delivered.• Assess environmental effects of the design and mitigation proposals present in the environmental designs to avoid or reduce environmental effects• Assist the Consents Manager in identifying, developing and managing consents and the maintaining the consents register & portal.• Work with Planners and the Engineering team to ensure that the programme is effectively communicated and collaboratively work to ensure that environmental timescales are built into theprogramme and risk is understood.• Ensure that the Engineering team and any Supply Chain understand the environmental aspects and impacts and what action is required of them.• Increase environmental awareness within the wider team.• Establish and maintain a programme for reporting, and demonstrating compliance with applicable legislation and industry best practice.• Assist with the implementation of BS EN ISO14001 certification and audit against the standard and internal procedure.• Take responsibility for improvements to and delivery of Environmental and Sustainability Policy and Procedures.• Assist in the development and implementation of the waste hierarchy and beneficial re-use• Provide practical and innovative solutions for waste management and reuse, including materials, energy and carbon management.• Support supply chain activities to raise environmental and sustainability standards.• Undertake other tasks from time to time to support the wider Environment Team.Key Skills:• Experience of working in the water industry, ideally as a hydrogeologist/hydrologist/water resources specialist, either in the private sector, for regulatory authorities or academic institution.• A sound awareness of the relevant legislation covering water resources and water quality.• Willing to assist with the management of other environmental disciplines.• Strong stakeholder management skills with experience of influencing and negotiating with a wide variety of internal and external stakeholders and the ability to extract key points andcommunicate this to others.• Experience of driving improvements to systems and processes.• You will have good inter-personal skills and be able to develop and maintain good relationships and networks.• Membership of an appropriate professional body working towards chartered status.
