Subcontract Buyer / Construction Buyer
A successful contractor in Milton Keynes, Buckinghamshire have an opportunity for a Sub-contract Buyer to join their growing commercial team
You will be rewarded with the opportunity to develop your knowledge and skill base across the commercial, education and residential sectors
You will be leading the buying function and will be given the autonomy to grow / mould the department
The Company
Our client predominantly builds student accommodation.
The other arm of the business is high end residential – scheme sizes range from 1-50 plots
Scheme sized range from £1-15m
The Role
You will be undertaking materials and subcontract buying and will be working with the 2 other assistants in the department to deliver projects on time and within budget. You will be expected to work within budget and maximise efficiencies within set parameters.
Typical duties:
Providing prices for all materials included in project plans and drawings
Identifying potential suppliers and new products
Contacting a range of suppliers and subcontractors to obtain quotations and agree delivery times
Creating subcontract packages
Keeping detailed records and maintaining a well organised work schedule
Assessing the reliability of subcontractors and suppliers
Dealing effectively with challenges with suppliers and the flow of materials
Placing material orders
Conducting material take offs
Ensuring compliance with the safety, health and environment requirements of materials and services
Providing advice to the estimator on predicted cost of items
Liaising closely with the estimator at tender stage to ensure that an accurate project cost is provided
Preparing and maintaining cost reports in order to maximise efficiency within the business
Negotiating and agreeing the most favourable terms possible with suppliers once a contract has been secured
Checking quantities ordered against the project totals
The right person – Construction Buyer
You will have a minimum of 4 years’ experience working as a buyer for a construction company
You will have sub-contract buying experince
You will be a strong communicator and negotiator
Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office
Working hours are 8.30am-5.30pm Monday to Thursday and 8.30am – 5.00pm on Friday
